I was pondering the idea of finally getting rid of my kitty and was wondering how difficult it was to change it out. Also where can I get a cat delete pipe fairly cheap.

im thinking about doing that to mine....but
a buddy of mine took off the cat pipe and removed all the filters then put it back on so...it looks like a cat from the outside, but is in fact gutted and sounds like his straight piped powerjoke.
and its free

I'm also thinking about this mod. I have never seen the inside of a stock catalytic converter, what's the best way to gut it?

I did it. I went with the MBRP pipe it is about $114.00 The replacement pipe is a straight run and the factory pipe with cat isn't. Removal takes about 20min. Putting in the new pipe is about the same. The clamp on the downpipe was a little bit of a pain in the ass. Truck spools harder and is definitely louder without the cat. I did it soley for EGT reasons. I need to see if it passes emissions in November. If it does cat stays off.

Honda,
Problem with gutting the cat is a diesel emissons check. I don't know if you have them by you or not. We have a running snap test here so I don't want to gut it, if the cat filters out some necessary crap for emissions. The Cats are expensive. If you don't have emissions then empty it, but I think the straighter pipe run would be more efficent.

are you talking about a full downpipe or you cut the cat out and clamped a straight piece of pipe in it's place?

you need a piece of pipe or a crowbar to gut it,a hammer, and some patience.

by gutting the kitty you create a huge turbulent void sort of like a air chamber. not good.

i have a 2004 lb7 front pipe if anyone is interested. pm me

For the folks that have used the cat delete pipe, do you get the hiss out the tail pipe as in sound? My buddy has a ford, mbrp 4". When he starts the truck, the exhaust tone sounds awesome, then after 3 seconds the good sound goes away when the turbo gets fully spooled. Kinda sounds bad, but when you take off, it sounds pretty good.

Andy,
No hiss sound but I have MBRP cool duals. When you do go heavy on the throttle it is definitely louder then it was with the cat. Truck spools faster and can be a little harder to handle in the rain as far as rear traction is concerned.

yeah, the hiss sound is typical and is the sound of the egr cycling. you'll hear deep rumble for a few seconds, then hiss...and back and forth, but only at idle or if you're stopped at a light or something.

I've been kicking around the idea of deleting the cat for some time now. Just trying to take it easy on the mods for a while. Can't let the wife know I'm fliddling with my 40K truck.
