Was towing my new bike home the other day and it was the first time i used the truck to haul anything and I pressed the tow/haul button to see if it made a difference. I didn't notice anything different. Is there an idiot light on the dash that is supposed to come on? Going to start hauling a little more and was just wondering if I need to get it looked at first. I bought the truck off of my father-in-law and he used it to pull 5th campers all over the country and never had a problem.

There was an idiot light (icon) on my last two trucks dash, yes. As to T/H mode, the shift points are a little different so that the tranny is 'searching' less...........I'm looking at your sig, do you have a DMax w/Ally?

Also, when your in T/H mode, the ally will act as an engine brake to hold a gear on a slope, I just engage it, tap the brake, and the tranny holds the gear.........very nice, nd saves on the rotors/pads!!

X2 on the features of the Alli tow/haul mode. There should be a little icon that looks like a trailer on the dash that lights up when you press the button...you might have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds. My '04 had the tow/haul mode and overdrive cancellation on the same button, so I had to hold down the button a little longer for the tow/haul mode to light up on the dash.

On the older trucks there is an issue with the tow/haul button wire breaking where the wire comes out of the shifter. If you can't get it to work pressing the button, you may need to check this wire

Happened on my '99 1500. Going to mount new switch somewhere else on the dash instead.

Tap the end of the shift lever for tow/haul, hold it down for no overdrive, there should be icons that light up on the dash for both modes. Repeat the above to cancel.

could the dash light just be burned out after being on for the majority of the 230,000 miles? Towing a 5er you would use the tow button alot, or at least i would. is it changing gears a little different?

The tow/haul goes off every time you turn the truck off. You have to reset the switch on start up.
