so I'm putting on a set of 6" stacks, and I'd like to blow flames. not with plugs and coils. but with propane.

so hear is my plans.

1. propane tank mounted in the back of truck.
2. line out of propane tank to 3/8 air-ride valve.
3 lines "T"ed from the valve to 1/4 bungs on the sides of the stacks
4. slightly crimped brake line inside the stacks pointing up (makeshift nozzle)
5. two diesel glow-plugs mounted 6 inches above nozzles
6. one three-way toggle in cab, up for glow plugs, and all the way up for glow-plugs and air-ride valve open to release propane.

that's my idea. now you guys tell me whats wrong or what I'm missing?
do the glow-plugs need some sort of control module or capacitor? or can i just use a 12v source?

You might want to check your local DMV laws as well.

Mount the propane nozzle as close to the top as you can, then you can have that cool blue flame!
And DONT go showing off in gas stations... LOL

I would like to make one like that without stacks, the next butthead that tailgates me will get a 'great ball of fire' on his front plastic bumper... LMFAO. :D

Another thing, just a thought:
If you're driving around at a steady speed and abruptly take your foot off the accelerator, would it create a vaccum to the exhaust?

Because if it did, it would suck some of the gas down the tube, and the upper half of the tube would be filling up w/ propane, and then when it met the excess gas again at the top of the tubes you would have one HELL of a fireball/backfire.

If you want to blow fire that bad just buy a ford. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c141/ohhhnoes/Smileys/rofl.gif

You can have a lot of fun with propane, nat gas & oxy/act. But respect is the name of the game. Use a weed burner assem, reg. & control valve. before your T fitting. Make sure both branches from the T are the same length & orficed the same. Also you will have to set gas pressure such that back pressure can't suck out flame. The glow plugs "NEED" to be as close to the gas entry point as you can get. You want "instant" fire start/ you "Don't" want gas looking for ignition point. You also want the fire after the DMax is fire up. Just think of your stacks as a propane space heater, by the way you would want the orfices pointing & firing up the stack Not from the side. "HAVE FUN"

x2 with Miller... Use fittings and regulators rated for propane. You'd probably also want to use a nozzle made for propane...

There's no question these're against the law (on the street at least); I thought about putting some in my stacks but decided it was too much work for not enough reward.

There's a guy on eBay selling a DVD with a how-to on propane exhaust flame-thrower kits. I think its $10...$15, might be worth it.

I'm not sure if a glow plug would light up propane, thats something I'd test if I were you before you go about installing it all. How do you plan on running wires for that- inside the stacks?

How far from the end of the stacks you place the propane nozzle will determine what size, color, and shape the flame is.

Didn't the old "Trucks" show on t.v. have an episode where he built a flame thrower exhaust? If you look hard enough you could probably find a kit. For Off Road use only of course.;)

but people use these on gas engines. since diesel is not as volital, i figure i have less chance of detination. I work for a welding suplies company, so i'll be as safe as "this" could be.

no wires on the inside just weld on bungs on the back of the stacks. I was thinking the glowplugs wont go out, and all the carbon build up will cover spark plugs. i think?

any more help guys.

I would use a spark generator such as a presto unit etc. Once the fire is lit the only time you will need spark again is to relight. Remember you have to treat this as a propane space heater i.e., btus/cfm. You will have to be pumping some fair exhaust before you light up otherwise you have yourself a pretty fair cannon. e.g. no air no fire just raw propane. "Again GOOD LUCH"

any other sugestions on an ignition source?

for an ignition source try to find one from a turbine engine that would work perfact but might be pricy

I think that the amount of air would blow it out quickly without a constant ignition expecially if you rev the engine. I would make an ignition box just like fast01 recomended. Make like a piece of pipe capped at each end with holes drilled in it to contain a small flame like a pilot on a water heater then you can introduce the larger amount of propane below that. I mean even a small gust of wind blows out a pilot on a water heater so you would need a steady flame. A spark plug with a coil is what is used for the gasser ones. Just my .02.

lol thats the gayest thing i've ever seen, the only thing cool is the flames comin from the exhaust.

Exhaust flames are cool, our golf cart does good with airbrake system antifreeze:anitoof:
