Was just wondering...Are the glow plugs accessable and where are they on these engines? Does anyone out there do maintenance thereby change them at some point? thanks for any info. bob:confused:

There should be a code generated when a plug fails and it tells you which cylinder.

on the LB7 it doesn't tell you which glowplug, but it does give an indication of how many are bad via glowplug relay feedback voltage.. you will get a SES light..

Aren't the plugs under the valve cover?

THE DMAX HAS BOTH GLOW PLUGS AND AN INTAKE AIR HEATER.

The glow plugs as have been stated are in the cyl heads just above the exhaust manifolds, there is a connector rail that attatches all 4 plugs per side, as a rule, you really don't need to mess with them unless they quit, and the there will be a code set when this happens. unless you like spending $$, wait till they go out.

it has been my experiance that the glow plug relay or the intake air heater relay will usually burn out first, which will also throw a code.

the air intake heater is a coil element in the intake plenum after the intercooler, ( the plug lookin thing with a single wire attached in the intake )

The Cummins has what is reffered to as a " Grid heater" basically a toaster element in the intake plenum.

no matter the method, they all heat the incoming air ( grid/intake heaters ) charge, or air and fuel ( glow plugs ) charge aiding cold start ability.

 Funny, they charged me for a couple the last time I had some work done. I think they were $7 a piece. Plugs were not bad, the rail was screwed up and the connector retention bolts were rusted.

While you are at it, could you check the part number as well? Is it an AC or a Bosch or something?
