: Changed lift pump but can't get truck started

I did the lift pump test in my 95 2500 Turbo. On opening the T valve, a tiny amount of fuel squirted out and the truck stalled after 10 or 15 seconds. I did not change the OPS. After changing the lift pump, when I crank the truck over with the starter, I have fuel coming out at the T valve and at the bleed hole on the fuel filter, but the truck won't start. I have tried to start the truck 5 or 6 times using 15 second bursts on the starter. I have a block heater and have the truck plugged in. The wait to start light stays on for 5 to 7 seconds.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Did the engine run OK befor you opened the T valve? If it did, you may have air in the system. Also, if you put the truck in drive and turn the key to start it, can you hear the LP run? Again, if it runs there may still be air in the system. You may have to crack the injector lines and crack it over to get the air out.

Thanks for the quick reply.

It was running when I did the lift pump test. Prior to that it was getting hard to start and it stalled a few times while I was driving. I read a couple of conflicting things in this thread about cracking the injectors etc.

I guess, on thinking about it, what I really want is confirmation that either I need to crack the injectors, or follow all the steps listed by cegusman in the thread above, or just keep cranking.

The lift pump does run when I put the truck in drive and it runs for a few seconds after I stop cranking.

Are the glow plugs working?
Is there voltage at the GP's and if you put a test light from + to the GP is it lighting?

Hmmmm, a little more info...that's why it's good to go through the Diagnostic Checklist.

It sounds like you are getting power to the LP through the ignition switch when you crank it...but it shouldn't turn over the engine if you place it in drive.

You need to bleed your filter...

Thanks for the replies! I got it running! I charged up the battery and tried again. The first time I cranked it, I got a little sputter.....the second time, she fired up. Again, thanks
