I need some info from anyone who has removed their cat from an LLY. Can it be done without cutting or dropping the tranny cross member ? Looks pretty tight to me.

Yes.

Jack up the front, and it will come out the front. You have to unbolt a bracket as well. It can be done with simple hand tools, but is a b i t ch.

Thanks for the quick reply McRat. Didn't want to start on it and find out it wouldn't come out without cutting.

If you can get it on a lift, the full exhaust can be easily removed in a matter of minutes.

I have my truck lifted so it was easier, but I didnt jack it up at all, just crawled underneath and within 5 mnutes the kitty was out.

Like the guys have said it can be done, it's not difficult just a PITA and a little time consuming etc.

Heck, it took me 1 hr just to figure out that it wouldn't go out the back!~

5 minutes??? Are you talking about getting a cat out from under the truck or removing the catalytic converter??? :D

I should of mentioned that I took the rest of the exaust off first, the cat was the last of it. That would make it easier im sure.

I posted a long response about how I did it in the driveway a while back. .. I can't find it now, but pretty much explained in detail how to do it. . . if you can find it, it might help. . . If I find it I'll post it. . .

The hardest part for me was getting the exhaust mount off of the Tranny. Some new ratcheting boxed end wrenches sure made it a lot easier. I'm just waiting until I have to put it back on for the new CA emissions requirements comming up. -:t
