I'm new to diesel.Need to know if it's normal for 98 6.5 TD to puff blue smoke at startup? With it beeing -27C with the wind chill. I had it plugged in for just 3 hours. This is the first time it happened. Is it just the cold weather?

It's probably all the extra fuel it takes to start when it's that cold.

During startup, all diesels go to max or overfuel delivery, your 6.5 specs 36ccs minimum cranking delivery, that puff of blue smoke is just the first couple of unignited injections before the temperature in the chamber gets hot enough to fire on all 8. Completely normal, infact, if all your getting is a slight puff at those temps, your doing very well. Mine sounds like your waking up an angry grizzly bear from hibernation, roars, clatters and smokes white for a couple seconds before it finally calms down.
