I have a command start and am wondering what the pro and cons of having my high idle turned on so when I start the truck with the command start it will go to high idle after starting. I live in central Canada and it gets cold, very cold, should the truck start to warm up first then turn it on or have it come up to the 1060 RPMs I have it set to??? YOur thoughts?????????

Does command start wait for the glow plug light to go off before starting?

I wouldn't have any concerns about it with my rig....

It will high idle no matter what on your 98. Then once warm is will settle down.

Con - Burns more fuel

Pros - everything else

There's really no reason not to...

yes the command start waits for the glow plugs, it can start right away, wait 7 sec, or wait 18 sec! is it harder on the COLD engine or better for it???

Whats your question is high idle better for cold engine or no high idle.

A little higher RPM will increase cylinder temperature quicker and help the cylinders even out faster is the idea. The problem with a cold cylinder is a little unburned fuel can build up and then light off too harshly before TDC.
