May be the dumbest question I ever asked. I'm going to change the oil and filter at the 500 mile mark. Pulled open the trusty owner's manual.......nothing about the oil filter. Nothing in the Duramax manual either. So I crawled under it yesterday.........and damned if I can't find it. So.......where is the secret hiding place of the Duramax oil filter?

Look immediately above the front drive shaft yoke where it attaches to the front diff (use a light). Big black canister... you shouldn't be able to miss it.

The thing is HUGE - don't bump your head on it - and don't foget the Allison's spin on at first service too.......

Anybody know if it's the same filter on the '08 as the '07? None of the parts places here list the '08 yet. Same for the Allison spin on.
Thanks for the location, when I get home from work I'll look again, I can't imagine how I missed it if it's that obvious.

I dumped my stuff @ 500 miles as well :-) The only thing problematic is how tight the oil filter is.... I was twisting as hard as I could.... and finally got it to move.... Good luck...

Make sure your rig is good and hot. Use a 1" wide strap wrench, mine is Craftsman.
