Mine will collect a small amount there between changes but it hardly ever drips on the floor. It seems to have gotten better over time but that might be wishful thinking.
I'd let it go for awhile and see if it gets worse before leaving it with the dealer.

Mine's in the shop right now for that. Got a total of 3 hours on the truck before it started leaking badly. So far i've owned it for 3 hours, and it's been in the shop for almost a week, with another week to go they claim. (parts)

Mine was the rear main, and i'm waiting to see how it turns out. I already informed the dealer that if i'm not COMPLETELY happy, he's getting me another truck.. From what i'm told, the torsion bars, crossmember, driveshaft have to come out, then the tranny gets dropped. Flywheel off, from there it gets fuzzy, cause they hadn't done one. I can't find anybody that can answer my question if the seal replacement requires dropping the pan and the main cap, or if it's just a simple replacement deal.....

I'm giving them the chance, cause mine was an ordered truck with some weird options, and i don't want to have to order another one. But it still is a MAJOR irritant......:(

You should probably approch it by yourself with a couple of helpfull tools.

1)Shop rag
2)Chem Tool
3)A Sump to collect any excess
4)fender cover

Once you are ready to work, spray down problematic area w/ carb/parts cleaner wipe it clean. Make sure that all oil is removed. I would seriousy check all surrounding hoses and ducts. If not repeat. Get in the truck start it up. Observe problematic area...Do you notice anything strange at idle? if not 2300 Rpms hang it there for one minute, make sure engine is at operating temp 180+. Let the truck hold until your done and check the guestimated area again (that you just cleaned) and see if there is an oil seepage. I'm betting on an intercooler duct leaking oil at a coupler because there is no EGR.

To Your original question "Is it the rear mian or trans gasket?
Start taking notes. every visit, every result.

If you take your truck in and they can't duplicate the prob. drive off dealership property then back on and send it back in. Untill it hit the three strikes rule.

Side NOTE: I was very close to taking my truck into Gm and having them buy it back........HONESTLY this forum helped my understanding and took me from the mentality of a mad guy to a more reasonably (common sence standpoint) to where and i'm not tring to brag on put up numbers but 50G for a truck better be a perfect damn truck....??? RIGHT

When I take my D-max out to the desert with my friends toys in tow they/we/i expect no GLITCHES. and so far we all good. The thing is i don;t drive this vehicle everyday. It sit all week while i drive my toyota.

Still looks like the leak is between engine & tranny, although it is very difficult to tell. Doesn't look like it is coming from vey high up though. Anyone else?

I have seen a loose Turbo oil feed or oil return line drip down the back of the engine and it looks exactly like what you are describing. Look into the V by the turbo with a flashlight and see if there is any oil down there.

Well, an update on mine. It was the rear main seal, seal was folded over they told me, evidently just one of those freak things on the assembly line that happens. They got it back together, and unfortunately found ANOTHER leak, this time from one of the cross bolts to the main. Evidently a pi bulletin on that. Apart it came again, and FINALLY, last night, I got my truck back. No leaks.!

Unfortunately, as I was going through a drive through, i noticed a very loud inconsistent metallic 'tick' that I didn't notice on the drive home, but the drive through amplified it. Gonna crawl back under it this morning. I don't think that's an assembly thing tho, i'm sure something just didn't get put back together right....

God it drives nice, just wish it was 'normal'. I also checked the exhaust gasket to power steering clearance thing on another thread, and mine has the bad gasket, but it clears the line by prob 1/16". Looks like it should be fine....

That tick is probably the one that almost all the enginges get. Sounds kinda like an old manual typewriter? Mine does it, but not all the time...

Yeah, it does kinda sound like that. It has no rythm tho, just very random. What is it? I can live with it if it's normal, just really gunshy right now on every lil noise.......

Madmax, hope that does it. Mine is not leaking from the turbo down the back of the engine (as best as I can tell), it is a very slow leak and really seems to be coming from just above the oil pan. How many days did they have your truck?

They had mine for a week, but most of it was because of getting parts. The actual work was one day to fix the rear main, and then another day to tear it all apart again and fix the cross bolt leak. I'm guessing that's what yours is, cause that leak was very small. The rear main leak literally covered the back half of the truck to the point that oil was dripping off the frame......

Wish I knew the PI # on the bulletin that tells about the bolt leak. Maybe somebody will chime in.

3 days with no problems.! luv the truck......!
