I have an 02 and just started looking in these forums. I had it in the dealer at about a year old and had a new fuel filter put on. I now has 14k miles, anyway my question is can anyone give me an intro on removing moisture from the fuel, how often, consequences if dont.

Welcome to the site.

There are fuel additives that can be added...... Prevent moisture from forming. And removing. There are "emulsifiers" and "demulsifiers"

I use Standyne's Performance Formula. Forget which one it is (from above) Over time and use, it should get most of the moisture out, through the fuel filter.

There are others. And I'm sure more knowledgable people will chime in here.

Thank you! Is there a process for draining accumulated moisture from the bottom of the fuel filter, does anyone do this on a regular basis or simply the additives.

hey rd69ss

My neighbor and I both have diesel trucks. He used stanadyne (demulsifier) additive to his fuel.

I used primrose 405 (emusifier).

We both fill up at the same station.

We both went 10k miles and then cut the filters open.

His had rust (water).

Mine was shiny new.

There's a little petcock, bottom of the fuel filter on the water in fuel sensor. I have personally never needed to open it. I've ran FPPF and Schaeffer's fuel treat. So I won't do it unless my light comes on telling me to.

Anyway, at 14,000 miles your about due for a filter change again anyhow. I'd visit one of our fine vendors and order 2 fuel filters(always good to carry a spare) and just change it out.

I am so sorry guys but I have more questions, didnt know there was so much I didnt know. What does FPPF stand for...demulsifier I assume. Do you run a demulsifier and Schaeffer's fuel treat at the same time? Do you guys use these additives all year long or just winter, I am in Maryland. My truck sits in the garage for 7 or 10 or 14 days at a time cause I ride the subway to work and drive a junker. Do you guys have preference on the internet, dealer, or parts place where you get your fuel filters? Thanks for all this help!!!!

I run Stanadyne year round. Other stuff I am not personally familiar with.
The theory is it can't hurt.
