Charles,
If you want play it safe then for best all around performance buy a EDGE Juice IMHO.
If you can find a used older standard Juice v4.61 without the Attitude and limit yourself to the 90hp program you will be fine........
If you push more than the 90hp programs you will be needing a tranny.......
The advantage to the std Juice with the Attitude is you can use the Attitude for your gauges......pick up Trippin's console mount and you would be good to go for a few more $$$$$$.......
Check out the Supporting Vendors here before you buy elseware...........many are very competitive and offer above average service to Diesel Place members.
So look around in the Power and Performance threads and search .........the topic has been covered at great length here.

charles - as tony said, the juice is the overwhelming choice of the members here......That being said, there are also alternatives too...It really depends on what you want out of the truck....Big piles of smoke??? juice on level 5 should do that quite nicely...the only problem is, your transmission will pay the piper sooner or later.....You asked about the hypertech....I've sold a few to my customers and the results were positive because of the low cost, and the ability to read trouble codes along with being able to change tire size from stock....There are lots of options out there, and your best bet is to do some reading here (and you will find info on every product available if you're willing to do some digging) and draw your own conclusion on what is right for you if you're honest with yourself as to what you want your truck to do.....

I bought a Predator and use on the 65 HP tune and it works pretty well for me. I was just looking for a extra boost and the 65hp tunes seems to give the truck quite a bit more punch. Lots of fun at lights. :)
Doubt I would use the predator to tow the trailer. It's just a 7000 lb trailer and the stock setup works great.

Stay away from the large tunes with the stock Allison. Edge level 4(90HP or VA 125 would be max that I would suggest.

I've got the juice and the predator. the juice for day to day driving is my choice, but I've got an earlier tune(predator) and it's a little rough in the boost area. Both do give their stated power levels(I've been on Kennedy's dyno) and seen results first hand.
The Predator is a little cheaper and has scanner capabilities. The Juice will help protect your tranny and won't engage until the motor has warmed up.

The VA box John speaks of is worth a good look. I had the chance to run this 125 tune prior to it's release, and it is a strong tune that stays cool. You should factor in guages if you don't have them though.

just plugged in my new 0-70-125 va box from kennedy this morning and been driving it a lot today. this is my first experince with any box or chip. i set it on 70 and wow, i like it. my wife said the truck didn't seam any diff. to her, then i stepped on it and she went, wow. she said she could feel it compressing her back, into the seat. i noticed the engine speed is about 200 rpm less at 60 mph. must be how it gets better milage. my wife is now concerned that i may start collecting speeding tickets. we had fun driving it today. iam glad i got this box instead of a chip. cost, is not much more and you can switch programs on the fly.

I like the edge juice. I also tried the quad 215 and edge on the dyno , and the truck romped. I would like to try a predator stack next and set it on the lowest setting just for curiosity sake.

RPM at 60mph will not change. I bought an Escort Passport 8500 detector, and will add one (or a Bel) to mt 2005 as well. Not that I live/die by the detector, but it can help by warning you BEFORE you show off...
