What is everybodys voltage output. I'm running around 15.5 volts. Seems a bit to high. Factory seems to say 14.5. Enven tested to see if it was gauge.

where are you taking the reading at? what type of meter are you taking it with? ie has it been calibrated recently?

I would say 13.6 to 14.6 DC volts would be a fair reading, with the engine running taken at the battery posts, load or no load, the voltage regulator will or should adjust to the variation in load.
I would watch the voltage output and ask your tech. what he thinks. I think 15,5Vdc is to high and even though you have sealed batteries you can still boil them.

good luck

My gauge also reads rather high...around 15 volts

I have three way of seeing voltage, Solo S2 radar detector, factory gauge and digital amp readout. They are always within 0.1 volts of each other. My voltage varies from 14.0 to 14.2 (while engine is running).

15.4 I thought that was kinda high as well.....

Mines run 2 clicks over 14, little difference w/my trailer hooked up at night, so whatever that is?

Mine runs at 14.63 according to a DVM at the terminals of the driver side battery. According to the dash volt meter it's 14.625 (needle on the first tick mark past 14).

Now another issue... Because of this thread I got to really looking at the dash volt meter. I couldn't figure out off the top of my head what each small tick mark represented, so I got out a calculator. It turns out that each small tick is 0.625 volts. This calculation was based on the voltage difference from the lowest indication (9 V) to the mid point (14 V) divided by the total number of ticks between (8). That's 5 V / 8 ticks or 5/8=0.625.

Who in their right mind marks a volt meter in 0.625 V increments?

I wouldn't put too much faith in dash guages, had mine apart many times and the needle placement is far too easy to mess up. I would only trust a high quality digital meter. Any one remember the Ford factory oil pressure guage that was only hooked to an on/off oil pressure switch? Now that was a high quality factory guage!

Mine runs from 13.6 to 14.1, the escort radar detector has a built in volt meter that I keep on all the time. It seems that the colder it is the higher the volts are. I would guess this has to with resistance.....heat increases resistance.

Anything over 14.5 is high...this will shorten your BAT's life.

I have the BrakeSmart brake controller. It has a built-in voltmeter that reads battery voltage and an ampmeter that reads current to the trailer.

The internal voltmeter reads 14.9 to 15.1 on the high side. I am concerned about this voltage and will be confirming the BrakeSmart with a DVM this weekend.

Mine runs at two marks over 14, that shoud be 15.6 volts, however measured at battery posts and it showed 14.8 volts (I believe that's too much). Measured at operatoring temp and all acc's off. Just posted this same info relative to a question on battery life. If gm is over charging then we need to find a way to lower it or make them pay for new batteries.
