I am a newbe wondering the difference between lb7 and the lly? I am looking to buy a used durmax but a friend says that the older engines have injector problems should I go with the old one or get a lly?

LB7 01-04.5
LLY 04.5-current

LLY is rated at 310hp and 590 ft/lbs torque
LB7 is rated at 300hp and 520 ft/lbs torque

LLY has catalytic converter, EGR, Variable vane turbo and relocated injectors for easier changing.

The 01 and 02 LB7's have had their injector warranty extended to 200,000 miles. 03's are dealt with on a case by case basis.

You can't go wrong with either.

NO they did not make the LLY until 04.5... He was pulling your leg...
The LB7 has more power options at this point because of less restrictions... ie cat, egr valve....

No difference on power numbers with the 6 gear.

One minor correction, those of us in Calif. or maybe I should say, those vehicles sold in Calif have the catalytic converter and EGR on the LB7's also. Not sure where you are located

If you look at the 8th digit of the VIN, it will tell you what engine is in the vehicle:

1= LB7 DURAMAX
2= LLY DURAMAX
U=6.0 L VORTEC
G=8.1 L VORTEC

I think that's right.

Hope this helps...............
