Hey all,
Been a very casual lurker since I picked up my 2004 Crew Cab LT in June. I've been very happy with the truck, and have had no problems that others have reported. So far it is totally stock with small tires (245/75's?) and I eventually plan on some mods, but adding costs to this already pricey truck is a hard sell.
I bought this truck to tow my Mastercraft (hence my screen name) between Salt Lake City and Lake Powell (400 miles one way) and other lakes in the Salt Lake area and it is living up to all expectations except mileage.
I am using this truck almost exclusively to tow. I've only got 3500 miles on it, and use my old truck (91 Chev K1500) as my primary bad weather driver.
My question is: Am I doing a disservice by not putting a lot of miles on it? It is an expensive truck and I keep my cars forever so this truck should outlast me, so I want to keep it in good shape.
What say the experts?

Don't use it , you lose it. Still have to maintain consumables. Belts wear out by virtue of environment. Hoses do the same. Fluids stagnate. BUT, you should only need to put a few hundred miles a month on the truck to keep it in good running condition.
I would make a point of driving the truck at least every other day , maybe 20 miles, just to get everything heated up and fluids distributed. Also, you want to get some miles on it to verify there will be no major warranty issues that happen after the 3 years. Just some thoughts. Others might have other ideas...

I got mine on july 31, it has 3500 miles onit now. I don't drive it to work cause I only live 1 mile away. So I ussually just drive it on the weekends or when I know I'll drive far enough to get the trans upto operating temp. I waiting a while longer before I do any mods. I bought this truck so I did'nt have to do any mods. I don't know what I was thinkin.

I believe that when a truck or car is used daily it lasts longer than when it is only drivin once in a while.........

I run my truck every day ...... sometimes 100+++ miles a day......

It runs like it did the day I bought it........

So my advice is , you paid a lot for it.....better to get a lot of use out of it.

Run it 40 or 50 miles once a week and it should last you a long long time. Put enough miles on it to let everything get up to op temps. Keep fuel tank full to help prevent water condensing from the air and contaminating fuel. Now, my ol' Grandma bought a new Olds 88 in 1950. She died in 1986. Car had about 10,000 miles consisting of about 5,000 two mile round trips. Never got warm and, while physically it was like new, mechanically it was garbage. Too much rest is a bad thing. Some moderate exercise and you shouldn't have any problems except you'll be out of warranty by virtue of time alone.

personally I would sell your older truck and use this one as your daily. it probably gets better mileage or equal and the duramax only gets better with more use. with the money you get from your other one you can do mods if you want to.

I am loving mine and the mileage is increasing with each tank.
