: Torsion Bar Bolts - Can they be Removed?
vtduramax 10-23-2007, 03:26 PM Hello,
I know the torsion bar bolts can be removed, with the truck jacked up, but can they be removed and then driven around and pull the sled?
The trouble I am having is the scales I use at the pulls are on a trailer with ramps and my t-bar bolts always get hung up and I have to be careful and use blocks to get on and off the scales. I am possibly considering a lift to be able to run larger tires to cure this issue. I know a lift is not good for pulling, but I would run a 4" tuff country or 4" cognito. Also any opinions on the lift would be appreciated.

ChevyDealer 10-23-2007, 03:47 PM I used to take mine out, but now I go out and then srew them in until they just start to engage and then go about 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
dmaxlover 10-23-2007, 07:08 PM Yea, just take the bolts completely out and you will be fine. Just remember, use plenty of anti-seize when putting them back in.
grayareagomer 10-23-2007, 10:47 PM I take mine all the way out every time. Just don't lose'em!!
marklilly 11-05-2007, 06:53 PM I take mine out also.

runawayduramax 11-22-2007, 08:13 AM i've been thinking of lowering my torsion bars. does it really make that much difference?
what would be a good way to mark them, so i could put them back and drive it home?

It makes a difference... Less of a chance of breaking a CV and helps with weight transfer to the front for traction...
radaram 11-22-2007, 10:15 AM I made some spacers out of hydraulic tubing and marked them for each side. All I have to do then is slide them over the bolts and then tighten them till the get tight on the spacers. It doesn't get any easier than that.
runawayduramax 11-22-2007, 01:21 PM i've thought about painting the bolts in place then when you take them out it would be easy to see the paint line, but your idea with the spacers sounds better. thanks well, ya'll have helped .
grayareagomer 11-22-2007, 05:42 PM Good call radaram. That sounds alot easier than paint marks. I would much rather just buzz them back in to the stop with the cordless impact. A couple of minutes may not seem like a lot of time, but when it decides to pour down rain at 2 a.m., I just want to get out of there! Nevermind the fact that the stops will always be a constant for allignment and ride height.
Laying two 2x6 at the end of the ramps would fix that little issue with your bolts dragging on an off scale

4"TC, I got one & love it. Steve just got one also & loves it also. No more dragging T bolts or weights :D

I used a couple of spacers on mine....1/2" on the drivers side, 3/4" on the passenger side. My truck rides at stock height. Makes it easy to install the bolts after racing...No adjusting. Just jack up the front end and screw them in! I concur on the posts about using lots of anti-seize!

Smart man.
Mike L. 11-22-2007, 09:43 PM Anti sieze helps alot but your bolts will wear out after a while.
