IIRC, it is stamped in the cover. Something like SC3D1057 then a serial number.

You should be talking to an expert right now. Who built the trans and what is the complaint. Why are you not talking to your rebuilder about this?

that is the problem i took it in there because of the problem with the reverse and they are trying to tell me that the converter is the wrong size and that a lot of other things need to be replaced so i am trying to find out so when i go over there after work i know what to look for i think they are trying to screw me over and the guy isn't going to like what happens when he messes with me

it was a place out of marble falls and he did great work but i just don't have time to go back to him to get it fixed so i took it to them because they fixed my last truck perfectly fine and didn't try to play games with me but this guy just seems to be doing just that and it is making me mad as hell

Did you check the cable and linkage on the side of the trans? Any codes? Find an Allison dealer because I have a feeling this aamco shop never saw an Alli before. The wrong converter statement says it all.

If the converter was the wrong size would the tranny even work at all? How many sizes are out there for the Alli anyway?

yep well i am going to take it back to the guy that fixed it hopefully. i was on the phone for an hour auguring with them about it and not they want me to pay 500 and that isn't even them putting the trans back in the truck which isn't right i am so mad right now you could tell the guy was mad that i caught him in his little lie

depends on the application really there quite a few allison 1000 converter styles...not the point though, ya get the truck somewhere safe haha

but they all use the same allison primary pump....so basically there is only one physical "size" converter, be it aftermarket (suncoast, ats, PI) or stock. So its not really possible to put a converter in thats "too small".

I think thats right...correct me if im wrong mike.

Correct Ben. Without the correct primary pump the Alli won't work.

sounds like a shift solinoid issue ? but again your best to bring it to a real allison mechanic not the bone heads at your local trans shop. 90% of the automatic rebuilder only fix the problem the car comes in for they dont replace all wearing parts just the defective ones. Unless you know the rebuilder dont trust them to give you the best product they can...... I have had it happen with a 700R4 years ago , had it in twice in 9months and the third time I pulled it out and rebuilt it with a buddy that worked for a GM dealer.... a few cases of beer and that was the last time it was apart.
