I have 154 miles on the dmax now and was noticing that is runs less than 30 psi at idle. Is this normal. This is my first diesel and i prolly gonna ask more silly quiestions:o Thanks.

yup. oil pressure builds up with rpm. 30 psi at idle is normal according to owners manual for the diesel.

You'll see about 80 #PSI when cold, 20 to 30ish setting at the red light idling after warms up, and 60ish when warm and driving.

Oh yea, welcome to the club, we are special :D

mine has 14k miles and 20 psi when cold and 14 psi warm at idle. Just above the red. I was under the impression that GM lowered the oil pressure on the 03 models and up.

I know on chevy small block engines that you only need 10psi for every 1000 RPM. A lot of guys make the mistake of thinking they need high pressure with performance motors, but the experts say the only thing you typically accomplish with high pressure pumps is to rob HP. By the way, my dmax pressure is similar to yours. One more thing, some factory gauges are way off, but I have never tested the dmax with an aftermarket or mechanical gauge. I am sure others on the forum have...

Pressures higher than the oil filter by-pass valve, nets unfiltered oil to your engine as long as the pressure is beyond the by-pass value.-:t

I think the Durmax filter bypasses at sixty-four lbs.

Therefore, I am easy on my engine when the engine is cold and the oil pressue is sixty-five lbs and higher.
