: Floor Jacks
caswell 12-02-2004, 10:44 PM So, what size floor jacks do you all use? I have a cheapo 3 ton that has blown seal (hey, that reminds me of a joke...). Upon looking at some of the nicer bigger jacks I noticed that many are still only rated at 2 1/4 ton, but look a lot more heavy.
What do you use???
wickll 12-02-2004, 11:08 PM I use a 3 ton craftsmen. Works a lot better than the cheepo 2 ton, but sometimes the gear that turns when you twist the handle can be a little stubborn.
But if I had to buy one again, I might buy one of those that raise up quickly on the first stroke or two until you get to the load. Or those aluminum ones sure sound tempting as well.
lakingslayer 12-02-2004, 11:44 PM I've had good luck with my 3 ton craftsman jack and jackstands. I've had them for 10 years.
chevmeister 12-03-2004, 12:03 AM ditto on teh craftsman. btw anyone else concerned now their favorite tools are kmart brand???

a bear 12-03-2004, 12:22 AM I use a Michelin Speedy Jack (3.5 Ton) Nice jack. One pump brings it to the load.
sprintmod1 12-03-2004, 09:17 AM I have two Michelin Speedy Jacks (7000 lbs) from Walmart for about $70 each and are one or two pumps to the frame type. Used hard jacking race cars up and down almost daily for over two years. Work great on the D/Max also.
Also have two Craftsman 7000 lbs jacks also. One is about ten years old and works ok for being abused heavily. The other one is about 5 years old and does not work.
Also have two Brunhoezl aluminum racing jacks at about $750 each; their light and they work great but way, way, way overpriced!
And one Craftsman aluminum racing jack for about $159. Looks nice, works nice and so far is holding up well even compared to the Brunhoezl's.
Favorite jacks in the garage?? The two cheap Michelin's!!
Bill Gisse 12-03-2004, 01:20 PM I had a good long wheel base 7 ton floor jack and it dissappeare one day when I forgot to close the garage doorCensored .Who ever got it must have been super strong, I couldn't lift it. Replaced it with a 2 ton NAPA jack but wish now I'd bought a 3 to4ton one pump job, a good one. The one pump to point of contact is the way to go.
killerbee 12-03-2004, 01:25 PM The michelin 3.5 ton, like $59 at sams or costco, I think 21" and can't be touched at twice the price. The sears one I got sucked, false height advertising, took it back.
Nothing like getting the whole axle off the ground with ease, even some lifted vehicles. That height range is important.
Max Owner 12-03-2004, 08:47 PM Got the Michelin set. Seems O.K. Will last as long as the little borthers don't destroy it....
GMC2500HD 12-03-2004, 10:31 PM Floor jacks??? What are those?? You need a lift!! I like working on my truck but I do it in the air...Easier that way, unless I am under the hood..

GMC2500HD 12-04-2004, 09:57 PM Did not even pay that for mine, got it for $1699 in Dallas... Awesome quality and great craftsmanship... Will hold 9000 pounds... So they say.. I know it will lift my truck and that is all that matters...
snonut12 12-04-2004, 10:40 PM I use 3.5 tons Craftsman floor jack and stands. Works pretty good.
bpicard 12-05-2004, 03:25 PM Can't find anything but those cheap plastic ramps and don't trust them.
Brian.
Max Owner 12-05-2004, 10:43 PM My dad made a pair out of wood. Used 2X10's. Nailed together and cut one end on an angle. Seem pretty good.
k9shay 12-06-2004, 03:33 AM 2 1/2 craftsman, 2 ton walmart, both lifted the truck. Both leaked. Craftsman broke a castor. Walmart will still lift the wifes car. If have to spend more money I want a lift!
