: PPE and what for the Ally?
builtupbowtie 10-22-2007, 10:34 PM Well I was originally planning on adding the predator and a trans go jr but am now leaning towards a PPE programmer to run on either the 160 or 225 setting for daily driving. The truck is an 07 LBZ with 6k miles. I occasionaly tow a 25ft bass boat and use the truck for daily transportation. what upgrade to the Allison trans is usually reccomended for this kind of power? my biggest concern is loosing reliability. I was quoted for a suncoast level IV but it seems i've seen quite a few people running the same setup with just a trans go jr. thanks
Mike
KEVINL 10-22-2007, 10:43 PM If you want to tow at those levels a SCIII would be a must. But just get the SC IV and you can tow with the 350HP tune if you wanted
StompinRound 10-22-2007, 10:45 PM i have the same as you but at 16k miles, myself going with the PPE and the TransGo Jr kit
I would like to have the suncoast kit, but it is way above my price range for now, i guess if the tranny takes a dump, and the warranty wont cover it, then i will get the suncoast prebuilt tranny
i will probably add the convertor later if funds permit, unless i tear it up before then
2006sierra 10-23-2007, 12:52 PM I am running the PPE on the 225 hp setting with just a transgo. So far, so good. It is a nice smooth program that does not really come on strong until you put the throttle down - it does not smoke that much but it is very quick in my opinion. Trans does not like it in the higher gears with a lot of throttle but I have not limped and it rarely shudders etc. I let it learn for a long time though. I would never attempt to tow on this level (or the 160 hp) with the stock trans and converter (even with a transgo jr.). This is a serious increase in power and now i have spasms in my right foot all the time.:D:D
I have already started a fund for a trip to Merchant and a Suncoast IV install sometime by next summer.:p:

Yeah I'm thinking I can get to Merchant by this spring. How is the defuel, alot of guys seem to complain about it so I'm thinking about the ET version but can you actually run this on a daily driver even with a sc IV or is this just meant for pulling and the 1/4 mile?
Mike
Team Overkill 11-01-2007, 03:02 PM I run the PPE 425HP tune all the time with an ATS 5star converter and a transgo jr.
redneckbuckeye 11-01-2007, 06:56 PM I have an 06 with the trangoJR and run the 225 tune no problems, and have towed 5K a few times with no trouble.
straightpiperoar 11-01-2007, 07:49 PM same here run the 350 tune with transgo and no real problems
MAX4X4 11-02-2007, 10:46 AM I've got the Hot+2 and after talking to Mike L. we decided on the stage III w/1057. It will hold the highest settings of the PPE. I've had mine on level 6 since I've bought it but would probably turn it down to tow my boat. The egt's climb real quick on level 6.

mark45678 11-03-2007, 10:30 AM big power stock trans = ligher wallet if driven hard.... honestly if your the only driver and dont beat the truck up Maybe with a transgo jr kit it will live a while with PPE 160 tune but it is enough power to take out your trans , big tires and towing will speed up the damage. I feel a stock trans can handle about 80 hp more at the wheels , PPE stuff is crank shaft power so figure about 20% less to the ground.
WHTDMAX06 11-04-2007, 08:38 PM I am running the 225 tune on a jr only and have had no limps. I was even screwing around with a vette today @ wot in 6th gear no limps.
hondarider552 12-17-2007, 10:23 PM as far as the de fuel. i had it happen today. i hate it. might upgrade to the hot et thinggy soon. falls on its face after 2nd gear.
quadracer37 12-18-2007, 12:41 AM i noticed all of you guys have the 6 speed allisons with the transgo kits. now if i have the 5 speed, will installing the transgo kit allow me to handle the tunes you guys are running in your 6 speeds w/ transgo? only reason i ask is i plan on getting the ppe excel pretty soon and planned on running it on the 90 or 120 setting because i cant afford the full trans upgrades.. but if the 200.00 transgo kit will allow me to run the 160 or 225 then that would be awesome... normal daily driving, and pull a 20 ft enclosed trailer on the weekends.
3cylinder 12-18-2007, 08:33 AM IIRC the transgo jr is for 6 speeds only. The transgo for the 5 speed would require trans removal for install.

What kind of number were you quoted? I'm really thinking about doing a tranny upgrade soon and need to know which route to take.
The prebuilt Suncoasts sound like the best bang out there.
As far as driving everyday with a big PPE tune IMO I love and it drives great. LIke somebody said earlier it doesn't get out of control until u give it the juice. As far as Suncoast shelf trannies you are in essense paying about a grand more for a warranty. If you find a trusty builder such as Mike L or Eric Merchant you would be fine getting a rebuild kit or something simillar to a SC III or IV and paying less since they are likely not to break anyways.

What are you basing this on?
MAX4X4 12-18-2007, 07:26 PM A Suncoast III with converter usually runs around $3800 from anywhere.........I see your already in SoCal......you might as well go to Mike L and get it done (along with the secret stuff;)) Call him up, great to deal with.

That's what I will probably end up doing.

I think its more like 2400$ not installed that is I am not sure if you are adding that in or not. I do recomend mike l though I will get my stuff from him when im ready.
