Hey guys! I've really been wanting a newer (06-07) LBZ, but I really can't seem to find any in my price range. I have found some nice looking LB7's though! My problem is that I've test drove alot of LBZ's and I love the power! LOVE IT! My question is if I bought a 02 or so LB7 could it be made to feel like a LBZ? And would the tranny hold up if I did that? The truck only has 78,000 miles on it? Any comments are welcome!

well a programmer will help but the LBZ has the VVT trubo so it will still spool quicker than an LB7 with a stock turbo. Also, as far as extra power and reliability goes it all depends on the truck. Some trucks will hold some won't. A good safe programmer is the Hypertech. The 2 limps I have heard of both involve lifted trucks towing large loads.

I like my Hypertech. Plenty of safe power for driving and towing.

Sure...Add around 70HP tune..There you are! Also, 70HP is pretty safe for a stock tranny. Get what you can afford, A Duramax is a Duramax in my opinion.

My truck is an 04 lb7 and I have a pretty weak stack (hypertech + banks bullet). I just ran a 14.3 at the track last weekend with that setup. I usually drive around with just the hypertech on level 3 but I have a little more power when I turn up the bullet. I'm sure you would not be disappointed with an lb7 with a programmer. I doubt a stock lbz in the same size truck would be much of a challenge for my setup and it's pretty safe too.

I have both an LB7 and a LBZ. My LBZ in stock form is fun but IMHO the stock LB7 turbo is better spooling. The LBZ turbo is VVT but it has a good deal larger turbine than the LB7 turbo. Tuning makes all the difference in the world. One the big tune my LB7 at in 4th gear. Bring it up to 1600rpm rollong down the road and stomp it. It would blow loose the tires.:D I can make my LBZ do that.
Some good tuning will really liven up an LB7. I reccomend trans work and gauges first.

ive done that once on come slick black top on a rainy day and my speedometer jumped up to 65 while i was doing 40 in 4th just before i punched it, i help it ot the floor for a couple seconds then i felt my rear end hopping and next thing i knew i was sideways hogging up both lanes , scared all the people around me and myself too :o: but i let off the throttle and went straight again after fishtailing for a second . and it was stock tune.
but for sure lb7's right now r the putting out the most power on the aftermartket, but lbz's are so quick stock. lb7's just need some minor tuning and waste gate mods.

Thanks for all the help guys! One more for ya....how much longer could I expect the tranny to last on the truck that I'm looking at? I drive pretty normal with the usual show off burst of power. I also tow a 6000 lbs boat about 5 times a year, not much! It has 77,000 miles, always had stock size tires, and some kind of dual exhaust. That's about all!

FWIW, my LB7 with the Six-Gun w/SL on level 2 runs slightly faster than my friend's LBZ (same configuration/gearing/tires).
