Does anyone have pictures of where to install the tap on an 03? I have the ISSOPRO mechanical boost gauges, but the instructions from Diesel Manor show an 06 engine. Looked in the DIY section but could not find a picture.

Also, are most using the 'Hoot' method on this or removing the section of the manifold??

I wouldn't use a hoot method... if you get any little chips they are going right into the turbo and motor. If you follow the boost back to the passanger side from the turbo you will see the metal molded parts and then the plastic/rubber pieces. Disconnect and remove the plastic section and stuff with a rag. Then drill and tap. Clean out with a vaccum and rag to make sure nothing is left in the piping. Then re-install and you are good to go. I have pictures if you need them, but you shouldn't.

Not true. If any chips do fall in they are very soft cast iron and blow directly out the exhaust. With the engine idling the pressure blows the chips out at you as you drill and tap. Any that somehow might not escape are already in the exhaust stream getting pushed out the exhaust.

It's the way to do it... simple as that.

I didn't have the proper drill bits or tap set and I was a little nervous about drilling into the intake. I figured it would cost me something to get the tools or have someone else tap a hole, so for $125 I got the intake piece with the boost, nitrous, whatever ports from SoCal Diesel. Guy is super friendly and the intake was beautifully machined and even came with the fitting for the boost tube. Super easy to install (20 minutes) and I can go back to factory looking easily if I have to take it in to the dealer. I consider it money well spent. ):h

So the tap is in the metal molded part?

Pictures are always worth a thousand words! :)

I think you are thinking of exhaust. Boost sensor is on the intake side of the turbo, and I don't think it is a good idea to use the 'Hoot' method on it, IMO. I did the exhaust with the engine off, vacuumed, used magnetized nail, and did not have any problems with the Pryo.

Thanks for the input!

Does this help ?

I removed the tube, drilled and tapped then reinstalled.

why not just put a "t" in the waist gate line?

while it is the simplest method it does not give a true reading to the boost your motor is seeing. And when you start playing a little with the gate for more boost, it's reading more of a function of opening pressure rather than what the turbo is actually doing. Even when tapped at the manifold, Boost still does not give you the critical rotor RPM for the turbo. We can guesstimate that based on boost, and altitude, and fuelling.

Plenty of reading on the subject on here.:)

Here is what I ended up doing! Tapped the intake. Thanks for the input!
