Here is my recent oil analysis. Copper is high. I have searched here and on the web on this subject and concluded that it is probably coming from the oil cooler, but it seems like at almost 50K the cooler should be "seasoned" by now. The only thing I can think of is that she got real hot while pulling the 5er up a long grade. Could this have somehow stripped the seasoning of the cooler and that's why it shot up. Give me your thoughts fella's.
Thanks
Rob

Did you change to a different brand or grade of oil? High copper can be an indicator of a bearing starting to go south.

Have never changed oil brands. Premium Blue from the get go. Normally with a bearing going I thought you would expect to see tin and other metals as well.

Initially you will see high copper content because of the coating on the bearings. When you start seeing tin it's a little too late.

My guess is its still from the oil cooler. Mine was also high on my last analysis, but I don't think its anything to worry about.

I would probably pull another sample in around 4000-5000 miles and see what happens.

Are you talking main bearings, or just a bearing in general?

Thanks fella's. I'll send in another one at 5K and see what happens.

Mine was high too with 30K on the odm, but not quite that high.
