I have a 1995 Chev. 2500 6.5 TD that I pull a fifth wheel trailer with. I have just upgraded the trailer and would like a little more power. Not looking for a race truck just more pulling power. The truck only has 63k on it and is completely stock from the factory. What should I do to it, in what order while still being able to maintain some reliability? Also were can these modifications be bought? I really like the truck and would like to keep it for a few years.

Hello dmitch,

The exhaust is the first modification to make. 3", 31/2" or 4" mandrel bent pipe, the shorter and the fewer bends the better,no reason for mufflers or traps.

Read Turbine Doc's post on 6.5 performance upgrades.

The list of upgrades depends on what you can spend or do yourself and how open you care to run it. The best performance mods for these trucks are all towing performance and longevity inspired.IE

18:1cr, charge air IC, splayed mains,HO 97 cooling, better matched turbo

Hey DMitch;
I have a 95 and suggest like QM says Exhasust from down pipe out, intake mods. Then gauge it, power chip and you will be surprised at the changes. Make sure you get good flush and clean the stuff out from between A/C & radiator. You also might consider a dooling upgrade more power means more heat.

Bang for the buck the Turbo-master from Heath. Is my favorite mod I've done to my engine, eventually you will trip an overboost code if you don't modify the computer.

Now that I've used a spring on the wg for 1000 miles, I have to agree that the vacuum pump is too many parts for too little function. the spring gives you better spool up low end and bypasses just enough to keep it working right. I pulled my pump and WG solenoid and put on a shorter belt. I have only a pot. on the MAP to keep the 'puter quiet. I got an overboost code lastnight. Someone had turned my switch down to the point the ECM noticed .
