I just ordered an edge Juice for my LLY motor and was going to upgrade my exhaust. Which is better aluminized or stainless steel? Is there a performance difference? Does one last longer then the other?
Also does anyone have any comments about the MBRP exhaust ststems?
Thanks!

I installed the T 409 MBRP on my 2002 Duramax. IMO you don't have to buy the 309 stainless, the 409 is just as shiny and fits well. Sounds awesome as well without being loud in the cab. Took me less than 2 hours on jackstands to remove (in one piece) the old system and install the new one.;)

Most on this site are happy with their MBRP system, no matter which type they have. I am not and am the exception (geez, hope I'm not getting the PC curse). I bought a MBRP aluminized system from a major supplier here because I trade every 2 years and have no rust problems. It arrived looking used or at least installed, did not fit well (hung too low), and was generally of poor qualilty compared to the Banks systems I had installed on a few customers vehicles. It was and is QUIET as advertised!! I modified it a bit to fit better, but would never buy another. The SS 305 system I saw was very nice, fit better, and was also quiet. What kills me is one of my friends bought one of the cheap and cheerful $249 aluminized systems off Ebay that arrived in new condition, fit extremely well, and was a lot better product than the MBRP for over a third less money, and far less frt and handling charge. Go figure!

There are some nice systems on the market. I would not spend your money on name brand. I think they are all just about the same. There is a company out there that makes a 5" system that you should buy just for the coolness factor. Check them out and they are reasonably priced... http://www.expanditperformance.com ...

nathan- Both the SS and aluminized kits will yield the same performance gains. The 409 system and 304 system will look the same when they are new. The difference will come in time where the 409 system will eventually show signs of surface rust. The 304 system will continue to look new and most likely be around long after the truck. Here in MN, they salt the roads in the winter so I went with 304. If you are concerened about looks, go with the 304. Otherwise, the 409 or aluminized will work just fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info!
Something i didnt state in my 1st post is:
I live in Riverside, CA, they don't salt the roads out here. The 2 systems in my price range would be the 4" XP-409 or the 5" MBRP aluminized system.
Thanks again!

If you are referring to the 5" systems on my site, we no longer have those systems available. They were not MBRP, the web guy made an error.
The 409 system is by far the most popular. It is an excellent value and the fit and finish is the best IMO.

Yea I was referring to your site.
“New! MBRP 5" Aluminized Exhaust System
All crew cab configurations ”
Or
“XP Series T-409 Stainless Steel Exhaust System
All cab and bed configurations - free tip!”
So I guess that narrows down my decision a little. Is it a pretty easy install for the LLY? Any special tools needed?

Quick question, What type of metal is the stock exhaust system made from?

The install is very simple and straight forward. Cut out the old, bolt in the new. No special tools required. You can save your stock system by jacking up the bed to allow the pipes over the axle. If you have a Reg cab or ext. cab, you will have to cut one of the pipes to fit. if you have a Crew Cab, no cutting required.
