Anyone out there to report the Pros/Cons of these steps? Thx

Got to see them in action at SEMA. It seemed like every truck there had them. They worked very well so I finally managed to find their booth and talked to their reps for a few minutes. I have no real world first hand knowledge of pros/cons however I have a set on order for my truck so I'll be able to tell you shortly. The quality is very good and they've thought them out quite well. They've planned for the elements, they tuck up so well that you wouldn't notice them unless you got under the truck and looked for them, they move quickly and smoothly, and they have nice, wide, stable platform. I'll post once I have some first hand use.

Looking forward to your post sp33d! Have two boys and the SO that have a little difficulty getting in and out. Not a fan of tubular steps...

I love'em, so happy to get rid of the sidewinders (POS). I've had them about a month - just released for GM's and so far no trouble. My brother has had a set on his Dodge for about a year and has had no problem.

BDAWG can you get some pictures of how the steps mount? Any drilling required?

I also have a set on order. Ordered from Central 4Wheel Drive in Portland, OR. They told me 5 week backorder. I guess it is because everybody and their brother wants them.

I'll post some pictures in the AM. You can order direct from amp-research, www.amp-research.com (http://www.amp-research.com/) . Here a link to a FORD install http://truckworld.tenmagazines.com/tenArticle.asp?aid=1928&sid=42&cat=12&sc=2 I'll try to find my installation instructions and post them also. Waiting for the rain to stop so I can get some pics.

BDAWG, did you get a chance to take those pics yet? I'm really curious to see the step in the closed position from a couple different angles.

just curious why people are spending the 1100-1400 for these while most of the trucks on here are stock, green keyed, or 6inch lifts or less. I didn't want steps but for my passengers and daily driving I NEEDED them. seems like the steps would almost be on the ground for a stocker. Like to see some pics tho, my bro is waiting on his for his burb2500.......and yea he NEEDS them too.

I felt so bad I did these tonight. Open, from under and closed. I installed the steps myself took about an hour and had a stereo guy do the wiring. It uses the stock wiring so there is no extra door pins, very clean. Also because the steps have a clutch you can put your foot on them as you close the door and they stay down which really helps when you wash it.

Bryce, thanks for the pics! I'd like to see one more of the steps folded (door closed) from the side of the truck looking at the doors... I'm curious to see how well exactly the step fits up against the body and how it looks from the side when it's against the body...

Although those look beautiful, I think that I am still going to go with the 5" tubular steps line-x'ed simply because I'll be standing on them for access to the top rack as well as protection for the body *somewhat* while I am out on a trail. I also intend on closing up the ends of the pipe and utilizing the steps as air tanks for the air horns and anything else that requires air once I have a compressor as well.

BDAWG thanks for the mounting pictures. From the looks of it you have to drill into the rocker panel is that correct? I'd also be interested in seeing how close they tuck up to the cab when closed.

We just installed a set on my brothers 2500burban, 12" lift, 38" toyo's so he NEEDED them. We were also disappointed to find that they don't tuck under as expected. He was talking all the crap about my kodiaks but shut up a bit after seeing that his weren't as disquised as he expected. Nice quality wiring harness and components tho! Don't have alot of drop but the fast that the project outwards make it a more natural step in.

Yes you do, sorry for the delay. Yeah I was a little disappointed that they did not tuck completely under like the Ford. Other than that I've been very happy. I had Line X spray my rockers when they did my bed-liner and they seem to disappear better because of the black.

chaps don't take this the wrong way but after what I went thru with a set of Kodiaks I'd be talking crap about them to. I would not recommend them to anyone! Price wise they are much better than the AMP boards depending on how many you have to buy. I'm gonna pick up a set of AMP boards and see how they work out, if I don't like them then adios! If the wiring is a good as it sounds then I should be much happier w/ them than the Kodiaks.

Thanks for the info and pics BDAWG we appreciate it.

Chaps, they make different length arms to adjust the drop. No clutch in the Kodiaks - gear is plastic, I always had one hangin' down.

3500dmax, I see your in SoCal, I'm in Mission Viejo if you would like to see in person.

I guess I will have to wait and see how mine play out, I can afford to replace 2 steps before I total $1200. I have noticed guys running around with a kodiak down, usually seems like the driver side because it gets the most use. I will have to hope I have better luck than you guys with the kodiaks. I hope that my brother got the arms for the most drop possible, because he was expecting equal or more drop than mine and didn't get it. I will have to call them up and compare part numbers. Either way its nice to see that there are now some options on the market for those guys who NEED steps. I can't imagine getting in and out of mine without a step of some sort. I will try to snap some pics of the step on his burban soon.

Ive been noticing alot of So-Cal guys on here, maybe its time for someone to organize a meet or something. Although last time I went to one I think everyone assumed I was someones son or brother, im pretty sure I was the youngest guy there by far!

Just had mine installed last Saturday. All I have to say is WOW !!!!! These are the greatest thing in the world to add to your lifted truck. Problem is to remind yourself that they are there. Twice I have almost tripped from stepping out of the truck and catching one foot on the step as I get out.

Nice pics Sp33d. So those just bolt on to the rocker lip and then it looks like a mounting plate at the top? Explain the top support bolt installation please.

sp33d
02-28-2005, 09:56 PM
Yep, rocker lip and mounting plate at the top. I had my doubts that they would be solid, but they are.

The top support braket mounts to a block that you have to screw into the inner structure. Just requires drilling two holes into the inner skin (behind the inner skin is dead space and than the outer skin of the truck) and than secure the block with a couple screws. The braket attaches to that block with a bolt.

Had a set installed last week. Cost was $1360.00 total. Well worth the price to get the boss to quit complaining about how hard she had to jump to get in. Also get a lot of god comments on how they blend in with the truck.
