Dose the Allison learn in both regular and tow/haul mode?? I just put the predator 65hp tune in. Regular mode the transmission is now shifting like normal, so I thought I might play with tow/haul tonight. The shifts seemed delayed like it did in reg mode until it learned?? Is this normal?

Turbo,

Don't mean to steal your thread.......I can't answer your question but, I have my tuner choice narrowed down to the Predator or Edge. Predator saves me a little $. Whats your first impression? Was it easy to install? Did you get a seperate EGT gauge? What's your first imnpressions compared to stock??

yes I added autometer gauges and it was very easy to install. I like it. On the 65hp setting it gave the truck the extra kick it needed and my mileage is up from 16.5 to 17.75mpg. I like the regular gauges and figured if I did the juice/*** right now any warrenty work it would be a PITA as I wanted the Attitude pillar and could not find a way to remove it everytime I needed work done.

Thanks - Maybe someone will chime-in now and answer you original question.

Whenever you add a program the Ally will have to relearn in every phase. It will have to relearn in every hp setting your tuner has and same for t/h. It's worse than your wife and twice as sassy.

:D thanks for the info Mike. that makes me feel better. And you are exactly right it is worse than my wife.

Thank you

Make sure that you have used the transmission learn function on the Allison transmission. In order to use this function, bring the vehicle through the gears normally up tp 55 MPH, and then drop it manualy into 1st gear. The Allison transmission will then automatically downshift itself to first gear. When the vehicle comes to a stop, put it in park and turn the vehicle off. Remove the key and then start again. repeating the process a total of 3 times.

Thank you for your interest in DiabloSport!
Stay tuned,
Dan, a proud member of the DiabloSport Support Team

I don't know if this work or not but this is what they sent ne to help it learn.

I think this has been proven as wrong........

Do you just drive normally, baby it or beat on it while it's in the relearn processs. Also about how long do we do this before the ally has relearned.
Thank-you,
Rob

it needs to get "trained" at various throttle positions and such. I would try to get the TAPs reset and or get it set to fast learn, or I would just drive it norrmaly and let it do its thing. Unless you are the kind that wants it at its full performance potential asap in witch case do a few runs from a dead stop through all the gears at 1/4 throttle or so and then do it again at 1/2 throttle and work your way up till you are at full throttle. Then throw some forced downshifts in there(go 50mph and let it shift into 5th and then wood it for example) and then do the runs through the gears in TH mode as well.

Edit: it all depends on if you want it shifting ****ty right off the bat and get it whipped into shape in a hurry or if you dont really care, evenutally it will get "trained". no more poetnital for damage either way

So, Ratlover, our Ally's do not "fast learn"?

You cleared any codes with the ignition cycle and you think you did something. You stated that you run the truck to 55mph and drop it into first. The Allison will not drop into first at that speed because the TCM will not let it. I think you should not be posting stupid things on this board. Yes the TCM will not allow 1st gear at that speed( which will probably cause harm to the driver) but if , for some reason(computers do weird things) the Allison dropped to 1st, at 55mph I would not want to be around. Please do not post hearsay b/s if you don't know what you are talking about.

Actually I saw it on the Diablo Sport Website. The advise is as follows:

Now there is also kind of a trick you can play on the system that helps speed up the process. Take the truck out on an open piece of road, allow it to shift all the way up to high gear at cruise, then release the throttle and shift the truck down into low gear, not to worry it will not jerk down into low gear, foot off the throttle allow the vehicle to shift down through the gear progression until your riding along in low, apply brake, put the truck in Park, and do it again.
After two or three times, generally, you will see improvements right away, Allison has learned.

Easy on him Mike. I’m sure shredder was only trying to help, buy passing on info obtained by a vender, and trusted what he was told.
As shredder stated in post #7, “I don't know if this work or not but this is what they sent me to help it learn”.
I remember only a year or so ago, that many of us thought the downshift from 55 was forcing their tranny into Fast Learn, cause that’s what we heard here. Apparently someone found out that wasn’t true, and now we know better.

modified, I think shredder said he did it not just read it. Dropping into low gear at 55mph sounds dangerous. I doubt he did it and telling others to do it is'nt very good advice.

once the alli learns a certain hp setting, does it retain that in memory?
got j/a, so let it learn at all power levers and then be able to switch
between power levels

OK, it could be because it's 1:11AM, but are you guys serious about this 55MPH dropdown into 1st gear??

IF SO - please post detailed instructions on this fast learn. And a video of someone doing it!

Ok... dispelling any rumors of it suddenly going into first!!!

If you are going ANY highway speed, and shift your selector into 1st gear, the ONLY thing that happens is your transmission shifts like it's in T/H doing grade braking down to 1st gear.

You don't drop into 1st like it's a stick and you just made a pretzel out of your gears or whatever.

And you can gaurantee that? I could tell you storys about things that could not happen and did.

Hey, I'm just telling you what I have done. The Allison transmission will downshift just like the grade braking feature.

Sometimes when I come up to a stoplight, I can't help but let my presence be known as I come up... so drop 'er in 1st, and let it downshift... With the banks exhaust it's as close as a jake brake I can get with this engine...

Now if this one poos the bed, then I guess I can always try to stuff a CAT under there, right? LOL

Merry christmas to you too bud :)
