Finally took my truck in to the dealer for the cold "delayed engagement" problem I have been having since about 900 miles. I've put it off for approx. 32k miles but, this morning it gave me a "blinking light" on the "R" (colder than usual here)on the gear indicator. Dealer say's they can't find a code. I furnished them with a copy of the TSB covering this problem and feel I will have to do battle with em. This is not a frequent problem for me but, I know GM is aware of it because of the TSB. Should a code be set every time? Any suggestions on how to proceed when they turn me down for warranty?
Thanks in advance
Richard

What TSb converter drain back? If it sits for extended periods then this would be a correct diagnose.
Could be a NSBU with a blinking indicator if no codes are stored in ECM and or TCM.Crawl under and see what color the switch is on the driverside that the shift cable is hooked up to with a couple two electrical connections.

TSB#03-07-30-011 concerns converter drainback. Sits for 7 to 10 days sometimes. Most of the time it does OK but varies in intensity while backing out out of the garage. Usually it just sits there for awhile but today, it started backing up and then just stopped and started slipping with the "R" flashing. Put it into "D" and it acted like it needed a Kick in the A** to get it going. Gave it a little accelerator and it finally started moving. I have approx 33k miles on the truck and decided it's time to fix it. I thank the Lord that I bought the extended warranty on this unit cause I don't trust it. May be the last I buy even tho I am a die-hard GM fan.
Thanks for the reply

"Service 4WD" to dealership 4 times (still not fixed) replaced dash twice and switch twice.
Replaced injectors at 27K mi.

Check out the NSBU which is the gear selector electronics for the Allison. I'm willing to beat that it is your problem.Converter drain back isn't your problem as you describe it.
Confirm color as in Black or Tan on the Neutral Safety Back Up Switch!
For under 50 bucks and a half hour your problem just might disappear.

Will check it out tomorrow when I get the unit back. Thanks for your help now as well as in the past. Must say that the tranny hesitated in "D" and "R'l. Is this a dealer fix? for under $50. BTW what is a "NSBU"? (Neutral Safety Backup Switch)? Correct me if I'm wrong but seems I've seen this someplace else.
Thanks

Miracle of miracles. They are going to do the TSB for delayed engagement. Guess the switch will be looked at too. Thanks for your help.

The PRNDL indicater ( lighted dash diplay) will start flashing at the sign of low pressure and many times not set a code. This can be caused by low fluid, NSBU switch or converter drainback as per bulletin. Fluid is the easiest thing to check first. It can very well be the switch. My guess since it is an '02 is the brass stator support bushing is worn out causing drainback( located in pump area). Late '02s came with teflon bushing in this area and do not wear out as fast. If I am correct, your torque converter will not last long under load.

Got the truck back today. They installed a gasket in the wrong position and had to redo the job. Took em nearly two weeks. The NSBU switch is black and I will be ordering one soon. Does anyone know the P/N? Thanks

Two weeks? Yikes.... I think the last one I did was 2.5 hours.. in and out and down the road...

That's what I thought too but had to wait 3 days for parts (from Vegas over the weekend) and another day for them to screw it up, then tech had a problem at home with sick kid. The dealership just opened 6 mo ago and is not "goodwrench" but, I live in Pahrump, NV. So far so good but have a couple oil leaks now. Maybe residual oil from dropping the tranny? Do you have a P/N for the newer (brown) NSBU switch and, is it an easy replacement? From what I have seen on this forum, it could be a little complicated.
Thanks
