i am currently running a stock rim(6.5) on 285*75*16 and found a good deal on a aftermarket 8" rim, dealer says i need to lift the truck and cut some skirting, currently i have done nothing a have a slight rub on a hard left, just wondering what others have done, if i could i would like to leave the same way, thanks for the reply

I started off with 8" wheels and 285s. I had the t-bars cranked about 2", tied back the parking brake cable, then tied back and reformed (with a heat gun) the inner fender liners. With all that, I had about 1/2" of clearance with the steering wheel turned. I would ocassionally get rubbing with this set-up. I went ahead and installed the Rancho 4" lift and now run 295s with plenty of clearance.

I have attached a pic of my wheel well clearance before the lift.

Fred, the offset will make a large difference on how much trimming to the airdam.

What truck and year do u have?

I have the 16x8 wheel with a 285/75 and it never rubs unless I hit a really bad dip when I am at the ranch. I just tightened up the torsion bars and tied back the e-brake with a zip tie. I love the look and it drives great. I had the same thing on my 02 and it worked just as good.

I heard you have to chip these trucks (2005) if you put anything larger than 265s on. Is that true to correct the speedo? I know I'd have to shave the valance but I don't think I'll need to lift it any, maybe crank the torsion bars a little.

I have the 285's on 16x8" wheels. I had to trim some of the front bumper and take off my front mudflaps but besides that have had no problem unless I hit a bump at full lock. No cranking the t-bars on my truck.

No chip? Sweet! Not that I don't plan on some power goodies down the road but that means I can get bigger tires even sooner now! :D

As far as the chip you don't have to change the computer but do realize that your speedometer will not read the correct speed. With larger tires your speedometer will read a percentage below the actual speed you're traveling.

You can correct the speedo with a Predator or even the Superlift speedo corretor module. Or, you can get the Juice with the Attitude monitor, and set up the attitude monitor to display the correct speed. That is what I have done, but eventually I will get the Predator.

I must be lucky as I put 285's on, cranked the torsion bars and that's it. I will check the parking brake cable as others have indicated. The power loss is barely noticable. I put a Van Aaken on anyway, but currently have it off anyway (icy roads).

cheap, and looks nice!

I have 285's on 8 inch rims. Had to trim just a little bit, tied back parking brake cable, 6 full turns of the torsion bar on the left and 4 on the right (to level truck).

I noticed significant difference in power, particularly before the turbo spools up. There was little lag stock, but significant lag with 285's. Once trubo spools up, the power is just fine, but low end and takeoff definitely suffered.

Next time I'd go with 265's even though the 285's look best.

I have edge with attitude, run at level 2.

I really think cranking the T-bars makes the problem worse on the airdam, although it may help with the fender liner. I left mine the same, with 285/70-17's on 8.5" H2s. Minor trimming on the airdam and fender liner. No big deal. . . Works great, looks great.
