Hello All,

I have a 2001 GMC duramax. The injectors were replaced at 80,000 miles, the first time. The truck now has 150,000 miles and needs a new set of injectors, but our local dealership is telling me the 7YR/200,000 mi. warranty only covers the first set. Is this true or are they B.S.ing me.

Thanks for any help.

Several on here have had 4+ sets, sounds like dealer BS to me

Again, Find a different dealer till you get satifaction, even if you have to tow it, it will be cheaper in the long run!

Fill out a sig so everyone knows what you have.

Thanks for all the info.

I just got off the GM hotline and they said it is only covered once also.
I cannot find the service bulletin, is there a copy online anywhere?

Thank You

It is BS...The warranty is until 7 years or 200K...not 7/200K/first set of injectors. Hold 'em to it...There is not much time left.

Nowhere does it say you only get one set, but maybe they are reading it wrong about the bottom of this post, it is saying to order only 8 injectors for each VIN, not for the dealer to order 32 injectors and stock them for the next truck. I believe they are reading it wrong and leaning on it.

This bulletin is being revised to include additional model years and revised warranty information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-007E (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).
<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1715916&psdid=271&evc=sm#ss1-1715916">Condition

Some customers may comment on the Service Engine Soon light becoming illuminated. Upon investigation, the technician will find DTCs P0087, P0093 or P1093. Additional customer comments may include a lack of power, a fuel smell on the oil dipstick, fuel in the engine oil, fuel coming out of the crankcase breather, the engine cranks but does not run, or a hard start condition. This condition will not cause an engine misfire. Do not apply this bulletin to any diagnostic other than what is identified in the chart below.
<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1715916&psdid=271&evc=sm#ss2-1715916">Cause

The fuel injectors have internal conditions that may cause them to return an excessive quantity of fuel to the tank, as well as leak fuel into the crankcase. Due to the return flow and/or leakage, the fuel injection pump may not be able to build up adequate fuel rail pressure.
<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1715916&psdid=271&evc=sm#ss3-1715916">Correction

Important: Before the technician begins diagnostics and repair, be sure to follow the guidelines in Corporate Service Bulletin Number 03-06-04-036 to avoid fuel system contamination.
Follow current diagnostics for the condition the vehicle is experiencing, then reference the table below. If the diagnostics lead to Fuel System Diagnosis - High Pressure Side, follow the diagnostic until the Fuel Injector Return Flow is measured at each cylinder bank return connection (bank to bank).

DTC P0087
DTC P0087
DTC P0093
DTC P0093
DTC P1093
DTC P1093

Important: If the SES light is illuminated, follow diagnostics for the DTC as indicated with the Tech 2.
Important: When installing the new fuel injectors, lubricate the inside of the fuel injector sleeve with clean engine oil prior to installing the injector. Do not lubricate the injector or O-ring seal prior to installation.
If fuel return flow on either the right or left cylinder bank is above the initial fuel injector bank return flow value, then replace all eight (8) fuel injectors using the Fuel Injector Replacement procedure in the Engine Controls section of the appropriate Service Manual.
Record all diagnostic data as outlined on a copy of the attached diagnostic worksheet. The diagnostic worksheet and a copy of the repair order is to be returned with the removed injectors.
After replacing injectors, perform the following steps:
<LI type=1>Replace the fuel filter element. <LI type=1>Install all disconnected and removed components. Refer to the applicable procedures. <LI type=1>Start and idle the engine. You may have to prime the fuel system before the engine will start. <LI type=1>Connect a scan tool.
Command the fuel pressure control to 160 MPa with a scan tool.
• If the fuel pressure is more than 145 MPa, the system is OK.
• If the fuel pressure is unable to increase to more than 145 MPa. Refer to System Diagnosis -- High Side Pressure in the appropriate Service Manual.
• Be sure to record fuel pressure readings on the diagnostic worksheet.

*Note: The labor time represents a reduction over the previously published time due to unnecessary steps in the repair procedure being eliminated, such as removing the radiator shroud and accessory drive belt. Also, the original add time to replace all injectors was overstated, Finally, the number of diagnostic steps have been adjusted because individual injectors are not being diagnosed. The labor time guide will be revised in the near future.

Subject:GMP06-215 - Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin #04039A Injectors - ReplaceMessage #:VSU20061284
DESCRIPTION:
SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT BULLETIN #04039A –
OCTOBER 10, 2006

This bulletin is being revised to add 2003 model year TRUCKS. Please discard Special Policy Bulletin Number 04039, dated May 2004.

Some customers of 2001-03 model year Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra; 2003 Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick vehicles, equipped with a 6.6L Duramax Diesel (RPO LB7 - VIN Code 1) engine, may experience vehicle service engine soon (SES) light illumination, low engine power, hard start, and/or fuel in crankcase, requiring injector replacement, as a result of high fuel return rates due to fuel injector body cracks, ball seat erosion, or high pressure seal extrusion. (refer to latest version of Technical Service Bulletin 04-06-04-007 and SI).

SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT
This special policy covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 200,000 miles (320,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.
IMPORTANT:This special policy only covers the above noted failure modes, which are identified by high fuel return flow rates.

For 2001-02 vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after May 25, 2004, are covered by this special policy and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin 04039A. Claims with repair orders prior to May 25, 2004, must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

For 2003 vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after October 10, 2006, are covered by this special policy and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin 04039A. Claims with repair orders prior to October 10, 2006 must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

Thank you All for the help.
I think you are right about the misinterpetation, however I did find another dealer
who understands the service bulletin a little better. I hope!
Thanks again!

i just read another post with the service bulletin about the injector warranty. it said 01 & 02 models.

i was under the impression that any vehicle with an LB7 model motor was covered under the 7yr/200K policy for injectors.

please correct me if i'm wrong so i can get my new injectors in the next 24K or if i have 124K to get new ones....

The 04's are still only at 100k for injectors right? Ive only got 55k on my truck so i will be getting them before that 100k. And i know the dude who owns the dealer so no issues. :horsey:

One of my dealers has confirmed that the 200,000mile/7year warranty in no way states the limit on how many sets. As a matter of fact they had just finished a truck on its fourth set, so your dealer is full of it. Where u from anyways?

a little off the point of this thread but does anyone know if dealers will replace injectors if you have a lot of aftermarket parts on your truck, 5 in. exhaust, boost valves, aftermarket turbo, etc. just wondering if the dealer gives you more trouble.

10-19-2007, 12:59 PM
I think it all depends on the dealer? The Turbo and boost valve is the only things that I see a dealer might balk on.??

I would make it as stock as possible, just to be on the safe side. There are TSB's on looking for evidence of Power adders, and that is like a free ticket for the dealer to flag your VIN, and deniy any warranty work.

Then it would be up to you to use the Magnussum-Moss (Spelling) Act to get them to cover it.

I've never heard of that. Well I still think its bs that the dealers only warranty the injector if he goes out a certain way, they should warrant it no matter how it goes bad, because either way your screwed, just my .02

He still has 70K miles left. GM will not do anything if nothing is wrong! Its hard enough to get them to fix them when there broke!

I suggest give it some times. He maybe a lucky one with no problems, Only time will tell.

Yup 7 years OR 200K whichever comes first.

But I have 147K on this set of squirters, so tell him don't worry about it, just drive it. And besides think about the depreciation value he is saving.

that the dealers only warranty the injector if he goes out a certain way

What is BS is that GM extended the injectors to cover only a certain failure. The dealers are simply playing by the rules GM setup.

I don't know, but I would imagine if a dealer replaced injectors uner the warranty, and they didn't have any ball seat errosion or cracked cases, that the dealer would have to cover that from their own pocket. At least that is what I would think would happen.
