Ok, i found instructions on dieselcare.net, but i don't under stand one thing. It's step 8 on removal. it says, "scribe a mark on front cover and pump for alignment, and reinstallation."Where specifically on the pump and cover do i put marks?

if you look at the pump from the front of the engine the flange that faces up and butts up to the motor has a timing mark on it. they are telling you to see and mark where it is before rotating the pump. the holes are slotted to accomodate timing it.

when I replaced my pump the timing marks were stamped on the housing of the pump and motor. I had to clean years of greaase and dirt off to find them.

I took off the oil fill tube, and i realized that it would be nearly impossible to get at them without a mirror, so besides removing the fan cover, and fan, is there any simple way to get better access to it?

no need to remove the fan cover or fan. just use an ext. and a mirror. make sure you don't drop the bolts. I folded a piece of paper length wise and inserted it in the oil fill hole as added insurance.

pull the rubber grommet out for a little added room if you haven't already done it.

Hopefully one last question before removing the injector pump... When you remove the injector pump, and spin the shaft, couldn't you bolt up the shaft to the gear in the wrong position, which would throw off the timing allot? If so, how do you prevent this, or is it a specific bolt pattern that only works one way?

three bolts and a dowel pin , don't lift the inj pump gear off the other gear teeth , i have changed many and never had any problem you will be fine just align the dowel pin with the gear when you assemble it.

Thanks.:D There are three bolts, and two small holes, one of which has the dowel pin. Do i just remember which hole the dowel pin is in?

Also, in the middle of the sprocket is a pin, with something on the end. It is right up against the front cover (closest to you when facing the front of truck). Is this normal? I know i didn't explain this well, so tomorrow i will try and post a picture.

The three boltholes in the flange are offset, the gear will only go on one way. one or two bolts will line up but not all three if installed wrong. The small slot in the gear is to align with the pin. When the pin is in the slot, all three bolts fit.

The spring loader plunger in the end of the driveshaft is to take up end play in the pump. It pushes against a tab inside the front cover.

Thanks for the info.:D I know i say that allot, but your guys' info helps. Here's another question i can bug you guy with.... I am stuck trying to remove the injector lines from the pump, and have all but the bottom two left. How should i go about getting them off?

i know folks that remove the lines from the pump usually i remove the lines with the pump. in otherwords take the lines and holdowns off at the inj and remove pump and lines together. thats what works for me.
