I want to raise the front up to be even with the back first. I hate the way they sit. Second I want to make it a bit faster but with some noise. I want a loud exhaust system for it and intake. Is there away to make the turbo louder? I hear some Dodges and Fords just whisling down the highway. I know the programers are one of the best bumps in power but I am going to wait on that. I want to do the intake and exhaust system right away. Any thoughts on K & N's intake versis anybody elses? I have had them on my last three gas trucks and loved them.

Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thank you.

If you want to hear the turbo wistle go with a open air element. The AFE is popular with the diesels. You can also get rid of the cat if you have one and straight pipe it with 4" pipe from the turbo back.

Thought you couldn't remove the cat for verius reasons. I heard it caused extra heat? No? I would like to get rid of it.
Thanks

Opening the exhaust shoulkd get you the most whistle. As for the front, you will likely get enough from the OEM torsion bar adjusters. The AFE Stage did show me a few ponies on the dyno, but that also seemed to vary with what tune I was running. Something I'll need to look into more closely some day.

Cat removal, while not legal is very popular. Whether it works for you may depend on the emissions group on your truck. CA owners have reported problems. There are ways around this, but since I don't have a CA truck I have not verified them.

I did notice a difference in turbo whistle when I put the exhaust on, and when I removed the cat, two distinct 'levels' of turbo noise. I have heard that an AFE intake will make it 'whistle like a banshee' (I think ratlover said that or something close to it). Don't forget if you are going to hop up the power level with a tuner, that you should invest in some EGT and boost gauges first. It's tempting to make it fast, but you should at least know what's going on, too.

Good luck,
Dennis

To level the front end with the rear... I'm about 98% certain you need the 4x4 torsion bar keys from a 1/2 ton commonly known as they "Green Keys". Good news they are pretty easy to scoop up as all the 1/2 ton trucks pull them for the "Ford Keys" to gain 2" lift in the front.

Word to the wise... install new shocks at this point - stockers prolly won't have the travel and they are usually pretty poor anyway.

Opening the intake and exhaust will greatly increase turbo sound... gotta pick your poison on those.

Thank you for the replys. I was leaning towards a K&N but have found most people to stay away from them. I get a deal on one that is why I was going with the K&N. I would like to take the cat out but it is a Ca. truck and have heard it causes heat by removing it. I am thinking of either buying banks exhaust or just removing the muffler with a straight pipe.

You wont notice much difference when you remove the muffler. That was one of the first things I did, slapped in a strait pipe in place of the muffler, didnt hardly notice any difference, in sound or power. I dont see how removing the cat would build up extra heat, Ive never heard that one. I refer to it as the "root of all evil" and yes.. mine dissappeared!

If you just want to make more noise an exhaust or stright pipe will definatly do it and an intake will help. But if you want power niether of those will make much difference IMO. It will drop EGT's and help you run cooler when running a programer though. IMO I would swisscheese the factory airbox and run a AC delco filter. I wouldnt do an intake unless you are loking for every last HP. plus after market dont filter as well(its open to debate if aftermaket filters good enough and I believe thats dependant to were you drive too)

Things I have done on my LB7 that helped make more whine in order
1 Stage 2 afe(although I dont run it daily)
2 Swisscheesed the factory air box
3 Exhaust
4 Programer
5 Cowl hood with underhood insulation removed

I tried screwing with the factory silencer and such and it didnt seem to make any difference.

ratlover, you might want to elaborate a little on how you Swisscheesed your airbox.

Basicly cut a bunch of holes in the bottom of the factory air box and facing front so it dosnt suck hot engin air or is less likely too. I believe Nick has a bunch of pics on his site if you do some looking(nick the owner of this site.) nictane .com or wackywack.com IIRC I persoannly used a drill and a dremmel on a slow speed with one of those metal helix looking dentist drill tip things.

although i have not done this, i have heard of people cutting out the front of the airbox (the side behind the headlites) and cutting a few smaller holes in the bottom.
