Hey everybody, new to the forum, and just picked up my new Duramax quad cab last night.! So far like the truck alot, but when I got home, it had an oil leak that reminded me of the Exxon Valdez.... Looks like it's coming from where the engine mates to the tranny. Anybody had anything like this happen, and what was the resolution if they did? I'm worried about podunk town mechanics tearing into my truck and having 'school' on it. Hoping I could point them in the right direction. If it was an old car, I would be suspecting the rear main seal leaking.....:(

I'm mechanically challenged but think I'd check transmission and engine fluid levels, top off if needed and take it back to the selling dealer and let them sweat out the problem.

well, took it back to the dealer. Rear main seal is out. Got to drive it a total of 3 hours, and now it's gonna be in the shop for at least 2 weeks while parts are ordered. Get to have the tranny dropped, flywheel removed, pan dropped, and lord knows what else on my brand new truck. Not as happy as I was last night.....-:t

two weeks? For a rear main seal? WOW.

Half a day job tops I would say..

Parts are avail in 48 hours usually if non stocked around your dealr

not so thrilled about the 2 week repair quote..since like he said above, that is an easy job to do with the right tools...I am more concerned that you got a brand NEW truck and the rear main is leaking the first day. Hopefully that was just a fluke on GM's part.

good luck with the repairs and I hope you get a loaner and don't have to wait 2 weeks

Well, I got a loaner alright........a Chevy Aveo.........i think it would fit in the bed of the truck......embarrasing...

he said parts would be here monday, and then they would need a week. I'm very particular and made sure they were VERY aware of that, so maybe they are taking their time. Plus he said he would have it detailed again afterwards. Actually, the dealer has been really good to deal with, just a pain in the rear problem on a brand new truck.

Does anybody know if you have to drop the pan and a main cap to install it, or is it an external thing.?

I would think they would have to drop the oil pan and then the crank (only to slide old seal off and new one on), after everything you mentioned above has been removed.
