: Soft tonneau recomendations
Robinhood 11-30-2004, 09:30 PM In the market for a soft tonneau. Any recomendations?
I've had a Sport Masters on a previous Silverado with good service, only had to replaced two snaps in 3 years.
Any advice is very much appreciated.
VFRRider 11-30-2004, 09:35 PM I have had an access cover for over a year and it's still like new. I wouldn't ever use a snap soft cover again. Truxedo is the same type, roll up flat without snaps. I've had 8 inches of snow on it, never a problem. Velcro is still like new. Just an option.
BMDMAX 11-30-2004, 10:32 PM I have had an access cover for over a year and it's still like new. I wouldn't ever use a snap soft cover again. Truxedo is the same type, roll up flat without snaps. I've had 8 inches of snow on it, never a problem. Velcro is still like new. Just an option.
Access roll-cover for sure. I love mine, it works great. I just helped a buddy put one on his Dodge, the install is a piece of cake. http://www.accesscover.com/ for more info if you want to check it out.
DMAX2DAMAX 12-01-2004, 08:26 AM I have the Extang Roll-Top Low Profile Tonneau and I'm very happy with it (http://www.extang.com/docs/extangrt.html). I really like the low profile look and no stinkin snaps. The quality is very good and installation was very easy. I've also had another Extang Tonneau on my 85 6.2L for several years and it has held up very well.
Erie Tom 12-01-2004, 09:02 AM When you talk soft cover I am thinking the full soft snap on cover.
Downey has a different type of snap. Not the usual metal snap like a jacket has but a square plastic snap that goes into a long slot in the side rails. With this disgn I have never had the usual problem closing the cover when it is very cold as you do with the standard metal snaps because the cover has shrunk.
I use it to cover the bed while not towing the 5th wheel so it has been put on a number of times and the snaps are just as tight as when first bought. This is a much better design than the standard snap.
BMDMAX 12-01-2004, 11:14 AM I avoid the snap designs like the plague. Just my opinion but they are a major pita compared to the other available options.
JDTRIP 12-01-2004, 12:15 PM I have a Torza Top soft tonneau. installs easily, removes easily, and can be folded back to have access to most of bed without removing. best of all it does not leak. it also is locked down from inside the bed. price around 350.00
ob_1jr 12-01-2004, 03:57 PM I vote for the extang. I think truckcandy.com has the best prices. (around 200 for most styles) That's where I bought mine from. I think free shipping too. You can make the decision on which one you like. I bought the classic platnium because I live in alaska and I liked the adjustability of the cover. (tight and looser position on the snaps)
bigwhitehd 12-02-2004, 05:11 AM I would look at the sportmasters or the extang that popup. I think the sportmasters popup about 2 feet or so back from the bed and the extang pops up from the very front of the bed. I think both are quality pieces and i like the carbon fiber look of the sportmasters. Both are easy to take off also.
SpeedTherapy 12-04-2004, 08:50 AM I've got the Extang Tuff-Tonneau. It installs in about 20 minutes. No snaps or Velcro. The cover has a full length plastic strip which hooks into the aluminum frame. The bows are adjustable to 2 height positions to keep the cover taut. It seals very well as no water gets in from going through the car wash. Great warranty too. Got mine at Truck Add-ons about $200
TheBac 12-04-2004, 10:10 AM My vote is for Truxedo....

SmoknDmax 12-04-2004, 11:05 AM I have an Access cover and love it! My other truck had a Downey cover with the square snaps. I used the down cover for 9 years on the same truck, but I did not take the cover off very often. You definately never wanted to unsnap it in cold weather or you would never get it snapped closed. I had to put 2 500 watt halogen work lights in the bed and then cover the top with a couple of blankets one time during the winter to the the cover back on. The Access over will NEVER have this problem.
DavesDmax 12-04-2004, 01:26 PM Access Limited Roll-Top. Just like the others said, top shelf product.
Also has a Lifetime warranty on all parts including the cover. Not too many companies give you that.
Max Owner 12-04-2004, 07:01 PM Think mine is the Roll Access cover. Two and a half years on the truck. Lots of use in the summer. Seems to be holding up well.
BlueDMax 12-04-2004, 09:07 PM I have the Truxedo. Its' about 2 yrs old, still in good shape. Paid $300 to my door. Pretty simple install. Keeps bed dry except a few drips in the corners (I haven't spent time trying to seal 'em up). With a Pop-Lock on the trailgate it keeps the bed contents relatively secure (I just want my fifth wheel hitch covered and the areo affect).
EEEEZY 12-04-2004, 11:56 PM I had an Extang on my other truck. It had snaps but they were on a track and could be removed and turned around depending on whether the weather was warm or cold making it easier to unsnap/snap even with temperature changes. The quality was excellent and it still looked like new when I sold the truck after 3 years.
dieselman 12-05-2004, 06:14 AM I have the torza top and love it. No track to install, just 4 quick clamps and it's on or off. Just bought another one for my dad's truck. I've had it 19 months.
