Does Any One Know If Its Possible To Add The Factory Brake Contorl If It Didn't Come With It?

When I was installing the cross the bed fuel tank, I had to run some wires through the fire wall. i used the same hole that the trailer brakes ran through. It looks to me that it would be a simple plug and play. The wires run from a connector just below the 4 or 5 bundled wires for an after market controller. You might want to see if you have a plug there. There was nothing else on the inside, those wires ran right to the factory controller.

I wish I could give you more info, as there might be some programming to make it all work?

I remember reading a GM document somewhere that stated that the integrated brake controller cannot be retrofitted to a truck that was originally built without it. Something to do with differences associated with the ABS controller programming, wiring harnesses, etc.

I'll look for that document and post it here when/if I find it again.

Sure would be nice to be able to retrofit it to trucks that don't currently have it.

EDIT: Here is a link to that document.

Ours did not have the integrated trailer brake and I was told it could not be added. Dealer installed a Tekonsha Prodigy. (http://www.tekonsha.com/prodig.html) Clean fit, looks nice and works quite well!

you would probably be better off installing a non-factory controller anyways. We have two trucks with the integrated controllers and they would not work our trailer with eletric over hydraulic brakes so we still had to have another brake controller installed. lucky for us we got the dealer to pay for it.

I Was Just Curious....i Already Have A Prodigy....but Am Not So Sure It Is Working As It Should....the Trl Brakes Do Not Activate Before The Truck Brakes...causing The Trailer To Give Me A Slight Nudge Anytime I Get On The Brakes With Some Force..

I moved it here, as you can see there are other threads on the NBS trailer brakes.

Have you tried increasing your boost setting? That is what adjusts how aggressive your controller is on actuating your trailer brakes.

With most of today's brake controllers, the trailer brake is activated by the stopping motion of the truck. Therefore, the trailer usually lags a little behind the truck. With a Prodigy, try putting your boost up on 2nd or 3rd setting. Only lasts for a few seconds, but may help the problem. Raising the gain might help also, but don't let the trailer brakes skid.:( ;)

I don't think you can add the integrated controller if the truck didn't come configured with it. Your Tekonsha Prodigy controller is a better unit, which will work with electric-over-hydraulic brake systems.

The trailer brakes should come on slightly after your vehicle brakes so that you don't get into a trailer sway situation under braking. If the trailer brakes come on hard before your vehicle brakes, the trailer will want to swing around on you. As mentioned by TrailerproPop and SlimJim, you can adjust the boost setting according to the weight of the trailer (loaded, unloaded, etc.).

I'm told by my dealer that the Integrated Brake Controller is not an add-on. It has to come from the factory.

I Think The Key Thing That I Have Neglected To Mention Is This Is While Pulling A Trailer With A Pintle Hitch....the Bump I Am Refering To Is When The Trailer Comes Forward And Takes Up The Slack In The Hitch.....it Stops Quite Well Fully Loaoded...just Not A Fan Of The Initial Bump..i Wish I Had A No Slack Pin For My Hitch Like The Tractor Trailers That Run Doubles Do
