I went to the Auto parts store last night and I looked at the Sylvania Silverstar 880 fog light bulbs. Thinking I needed a little brighter fog lights. I looked at the package on the 880's and they are rated @ 27 watts, however the 893's are rated @ 38 watts. Now the 893's should be brighter. Right !! Can I use 893' in my truck even though the manual said to use 880's ?? Is there something that will happen to the wiring, fuses or relays ??

What year truck? I tried to look for Silver Stars for my fog lamps on my 05 Silverado, but none are available. I looked at the 880's but the base looked different.

You can make the regular high beam light fit into the flood lights with no mods at all. Bulb # 9005.

You can make the regular high beam light fit into the flood lights with no mods at all. Bulb # 9005.I thought about that, but since I run my fogs all the time my headlights are on, and the fog lamp cavity is so much smaller, I was concerned about heat buildup. More thoughts?
Fog lamp 27-35 watts
9005 55 watts

I run mine that way all the time, in fact I even put the more powerfull blue tip 100 watts bulbs in my fogs. No problem.

dwrat, do you find a big difference in brightness running the high beam bulbs in the gfog housings? Did you have to re aim or adjust anythign? Are you beamed by oncoming cars at all or is it all good? Thanks!!

Not a real big difference, I have them adjusted down so no problems with on coming traffic.

dwrat,
Put some in tonight. Much brighter, plus don't get that yellow tint from the fogs anymore. I'm running Silverstars all around.
Thanks for the tip!:)

BK, where did you end up finding the Silverstars? Can you provide the part numbers for each of the areas. I am looking to get more light out of my fogs as well. Thanks!!

I have to give credit where credit is due... dwrat hooked me up. I installed the 9005 bulb in there. It's the same as the hi-beam lamp.

Nice and bright!
Pete

In my 03 I have PIAA high beam lights in the fog lights and they are really bright. I found out that the high beam and fog lights have the same hook-ups. You should try them.

BKtool and dwrat - are you guys having any problems with oncoming traffic flashing you for the 100 watt bulbs on all the time?
