I just bought a 85 chevy Scottsdale 6.2.Truck runs great no smoke starts pretty good even with marginal glow plugs.Changing the oil the other day and noticed one of the starter bolts was gone and the bracket on the end of the starter was just hanging there unhooked.Got the broken bolt out with an extractor somebody mentioned on here,it came out so easy I almost had a stroke, those things really work!I need to know if standard chevy starter bolts will work or if I need to go to GM to get the right ones.
Thanks
John

go to gm and get the right bolts.they will be metric and have knurled shanks for reduced clearance.

make sure you hook that bracket back up. it bolts to the head and will save you all sorts of problems.

The bolts are 5 bucks from the dealer. The bracket for the end of the starter goes to the block not the head. Also dont lose your shim or youll be putting in a flywheel next, and thats no fun

Welcome to the forum ks662! :welcome2:
Good info above but one comment.

Stock 6.2 diesel starters are not shimmed. If you look next to the mounting surface on the starter it has the letters "NO SHIM" cast into it. Whether aftermarket gear reduction starters require shims I don't know as there are several different variations but the stock starter is not shimmed. Just so you know...
