Yes.

When backing up in a parking lot, check engine light came on and truck would not shift out of first gear. First time with about 1400 miles on the truck and then again 100 miles later. Second time they replaced entire valve body on the transmission. That seems to have fixed the problem. Now 13,000 miles and no problems since the valve body was replaced. I understand the valve body is about a $1,500 part.

See this thread: http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18791

Trans (Allison) pops out of gear on the 1-2 shift. Though I'm almost 100% positive it's not the fault of the transmission... it's the dealer's fault for not putting the correct amount of fluid back in the truck after they did a flush and filter change on it.

Since approx. 900 miles, tranny would not engage into reverse when sitting for 5 to 10 days in garage (intermittantly). Never was a problem after warmup or daily driving but I thought it needed to be repaired (converter drain back). Now sits at dealership waiting for fix--I hope. Other than that, tranny has been very dependable and I love the grade braking feature when towing my 9500# travel trailer.

Yes. At about 7K miles the tranny would take an extended amount of time to shift into gear. It set a code (don't remember what it was). Anyways, the fix was change the spin on filter. I had changed it at 500 miles, but the dealer said it should be changed at 5k. I now have 33K miles and no problems towing my 9500LB 5ver with the Banks Stinger Kit (Otto Mind, Big Head Wastegate, 4" exhaust & guages).

I had a "shift range inhibit" mesage at around 15000 miles. The fix was not the NSBU but the ignition switch. The tech had the tech II on when he noticed that when he transitioned from park to drive that there was a voltage drop of 5 to 6 volts to thru the part of the ignition sw that supplys line voltage to the tcm. Anyhow a new ignition switch fixed the problem..

A fellow in Boise had the same problem and the dealer couldn't fix it untill he read my post and relayed the problem to them. A switch cured his as well.
I also had the trans replaced at 600 miles for a leak. Since them no leaks and works perfect. Now has 17,000 plus miles on truck and trans.

I have a story about my buddy's trans. Not sure of the miles though. It's an 02 2500HD LB7 with the Ally. He took it to the dealer because after stabbing the throttle to race away from a light, the truck wouldn't shift into a higher gear and was holding very high RPM's. Only way to get it to shift was let the truck glide for a little then pick up the throttle easy. This happened numerous times. The dealer changed the fuel filter! Problem solved!

Here's one to keep in your hat!!!

I just bought a 02 dmax w/50k on it. I had a driveshaft vibration in it. (posted these forums) dealership finally fixed it(N/C warrantee) after almost 3 weeks. After driving it less than 2 weeks, the tranny slipped going into 4th ( PO700, 734) Tranny place said a pressure seal had a groove wore into it thus loosing pressure causing the problem. Also the primary clutches showed some burning. Their best guess is that it looked like it may have been run low on fluild at some point in the past. This the same shop that replaced a seal, bearing housing & a bearing in the final drive right before i bought it. The result of a vibratiing Drive shaft.(looks like it never got fixed) Which this latest problem could have in part been caused by this. End result...complete rebuild(N/C warrantee) Will get it back tomorrow. Vin records show no piror problems with this truck. All i know is that i've owned it for 6weeks & have only drove it about 2 1/2 of these weeks. I sure hope this gets better & no worse!!!

10650miles, tranny wouldn't shift out of 1st ,would up shift but would whim, got home very slow about 2 miles, Had it hauled in they said 1st gear shift pack needed some parts. Instead of fixing they put in a new tranny. Works fine now. Up tell this it worked good. Towed some pretty good loads on my 28ft flatbed gooseneck trailer. Don't know what the weight could have been it fit on trailer and go, worked good

Yes, same problem twice now, first time was last April when the truck had 14,000 miles on it and now last week. Transmission Trim A Pressure sensor selanoid. First time just the check engine light came on, last week the truck went into limp mode and the check engine light came on, have close to 25,000 miles on the truck now - completely stock, hardley ever tow. Seems statistically significant with the same part going twice and right around the same mileage (10K)? Anyone have the same problem or some insight? Truck is a 2003 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 extended cab.

something that might be useful info here is where you got your tranny stuff... did you?
-buy a complete tranny from ats?
-buy a kit and do it yourself?
-buy a kit and have a tranny shop do it?
-there's plenty of other ways people could gone about doing it

i bought the complete tranny from ATS, in the beginning i had a front seal leak i guess. but i did the install so it could have been my fault. pulled the tranny back out and changed the seal. working great after that.

10,000 miles - Got a SES light while towing, slowing down in town and coming to a stop at a light. When I pulled away from the light, the truck seemed to be slipping the tranny bad, then once the speed got up it hooked up and shifted through upper gears and did fine on the road, just didn't have any power and wouldn't pull over 65MPH. When I got home and shut it down, restarted later, and drove the dealer with no problems, but I wasn't towing either.

Dealer report:
FOUND TROUBLE CODE P0747 TRANS PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID STOCK ON IN THE HISTORY DATA CALLED TAC CENTER WITH CASE #7732965 AND RECOMMENDED TO CLEAR TROUBLE CODE AND ROAD TEST VEHICLE AND IF CODE DOES NOT RESET INDICATE GLITCH PROBLEM AT THIS TIME TIS UNDER INVESTIGATION K9995

The Service manager told me on the phone when he said that GM knew of the problem but has not come up with a fix for it yet. Hasn't happened since, been a few thousand mile put on it and no problems.

48K miles. Last Friday after I left the car wash I noticed that the shift indicator light was blinking on the dash. After i stopped, the light would only come on in 1, 3, R. I drove it that afternoon like that and later in the evening it set a code and the truck would only run in 3rd gear.

Dealer diagnosed and indicated the shift range selector switch on the side of the tranny was shorted. They replaced and it's fine now. Not covered under warranty.

At 23,500 miles when my truck was totaly stock, I had just delivered a small escavator and was heading home, truck was running great. Pulling away from a stop light at about 35 I put my foot a little into it, there was a loud clunk, loss of power momentarily so I let off on the peddle. I continued home but the tranny was stuck in 3rd gear. Took to dealer and they found pieces of clutch material in the tranny fluid, so they rebuilt the tranny. Dealer said it was uncommon occurance with the Alison tranny. This was before I discoverd "The Diesel Place" and now I know a lot more about what really happened. However I am suprised that I could "limp" the tranny stock and not even using WOT. I am hoping there was just a bad clutch and the new parts are better than the original ones!

Been running Juice/Attitude for a month now with no problems.

Of course, at 36,500 miles the tranny/tc took a dump on the way to Vegas while towing my 5th wheel. Truck is totally stock, except for Monster Exhaust. No power enhancements.

When I got to Inglewood to have Mike L. work on it he said the tc was the most "burned" he had seen in 30 years of doing tranny's.

However, a Suncoast Level 3 cured any future problems.

my cousin has a 95hp chip in his with a load leveler for that dozer he loves to hook on to with a pintle hitch.......we all hate dump trucks and would much rather use the 450hp volvo or pickups for smaller stuff..... if we thought we could servive a wreck in a pickup hauling a dozer we would do it all the time.

I pulled my Ally down 3 weeks ago and found C3 burned. My truck was never beat on and never saw more than 80 hp. I had no slippage, but I was installing a TTS Extreme program. Where does that put me in this poll? Did I have a potential problem? Yes. Does it count here? How many others have lurking problems that may or may not show up? Most stock Duramaxes will go many miles without a trans problem. Weakest link will be the torque converter. You guys that tow heavy loads, change your spin-on every 5K. That little bugger (spin-on filter) is the most restrictive pressure unit on your Ally. Don't get cheap; just change it every 5K.

Interesting thread. This is my first post. I have a new '05 with Allison, and less than 1K on it. OK so far.

I'm looking for tips on how to get the thing to last. A new spin-on filter every 5K goes into the memory banks and will be followed. I appreciate learning that.

A whole bunch of guys had trouble with a nbsu(or nsbu?)switch. Usually at 30K to 40K. What is it and why does it go out? Or should I ask that somewhere else?

Thanks.

1042 miles, lookin' good. Bought the 100,000 mile extended warranty, and will sell the truck at around 80,000 and buy a new one anyway, so any issues will be warranty. Predator on 40HP and it will stay that way, it's only there for the hills when towing. I drive for mileage, not for sport, unless I'm on my Mean Streak or my KTM three hunny.........

2002 49000 miles not a single problem. have had the juice on it since 6500 miles set on level 4 in drive, and level 2 in tow/haul mode. I have towed a 6500lb. work trailer about 27000 of the 49k. Love this tranny.

02 lb7, no problems yet at 116k, only issue is that on cold days it wont shift into fifth for about five miles, this is when the tranny finally starts to warm up. i thought these trucks were made to pull heavy loads for a million miles? it looks like a lot of you guys use them to cruise town with all your horsepower upgrades. No one really has a high mileage truck that I can see.

05 - 15,000 miles moderate use, no deep pan, and about ready to change to transynd - perfect in every way.
