: LBZ programmers
RockHopper 10-13-2007, 12:58 AM I'm looking for info on what programmers are out there for the LBZ. What features each has and results seen by the members.
I'm looking for something that will increase my mileage, allow me to set it for my tire size so my speedometer/odometer aren't off, and maybe a little more hp.
Any help would be appreciated.
Bubba800 10-13-2007, 01:00 AM Got the ppe works great.
copter 10-13-2007, 01:05 AM PPE set @ 160 on a stock Alli and I get about 17-19.
RYDNHI4x4 10-13-2007, 02:06 AM predator on the 85 tune will get roughly from 20-22mpg hoghway. remember predator is apx. rwhp and PPE is apx. flywheel HP. if you look at my sig. you will see what i laid down on the dyno for numbers.
gangjam 10-13-2007, 09:30 AM I love my PPE, only quirk I've had is when loading tunes 90% of the time I get the 2610 code, something about key left in the on position too long without the truck running. I just clear it and it goes away no big deal just odd.
Other then that very happy, great mpg, 20-23 hand calculated
My advice before buying one is take an afternoon and do your research on this site. There's tons of great info to take into account, a lot boils down to what you want it to do.
Good luck and happy HP.
LWATSON 10-13-2007, 01:02 PM I've tried a Predator and now I have a PPE, there both very good programers and both yeild about the same fuel mileage increase. If all you want is 85 rwhp then you will be satisfied with the Predator. If you want over 85 rwhp even though the Predator has a 120 hp tune, you will be happier with PPE.
Its PPE for me. Have a Hypertec 111 and PPE. Like the PPE best. Best mileage and Hsp overall I think its the best programmer.

Depends on what your want to do with your truck..
jstrese 10-13-2007, 07:41 PM We've had the Superchip, good tow tune and thats about it. Edge J/A, didn't see the point in all the levels. You need to let the tranny learn any way. And the PPE. Oh the wonderful power. Nothing can compare. Just set on 350 tune and forget it.

I wouldn't advise anything over 100HP with a stock tranny...;)

I agree with this. Right now I have a triple dog and I have had great luck with it. At some point I'm going to uprade to either PPE or EFI.
GROOT 10-13-2007, 09:23 PM if you want "out of the box" performance ppe is the way to go imo, my friend let me try his predator, didn't impress me on 120...but my ppe on 160 woke my a$$ up quick, fast, and in a hurry...thats why i drive it on 225:D best i've seen yet was 24 mpg coming down here to PA from CT. but you cant go wrong with EFI live
I run the Superchip programmer on the mid setting "tow performance" around town because I don't tow over 5000-6000lbs in town. When I travel for work I'm usaully pulling at least 12,000lbs. so I run the tow setting. Option wise it will adjust your tire size. I have identified and cleared a few error codes thrown by my exhaust. All things considered I am pleased with Superchips.
Dan J 10-13-2007, 11:58 PM PPE works well for me, mild or wild
Unit453 10-14-2007, 12:55 AM I've tried PPE, Edge (on an 04 LLY), Predator (one of my favorites) and currently running Hyperpac. This Hyperpac is one smooth tune and I really like it. I like it more than I thought I would actually.
adamrc 10-14-2007, 01:06 AM I really like PPE. I have tried the Predator and I like the way the power feels better with PPE.
Team Overkill 10-14-2007, 01:34 AM If u dont want huge hp gains, then get a smaller tune, because if u get the ppe and try the big tune, then u will be hooked and want to run it all the time! Haha....mine is on the 425HP tune almost all the time.
RockHopper 10-14-2007, 02:12 AM Now when you guys are saying the 350 and 450 hp tune. What exaxtly does that mean? On face value it sound like an increase in that much hp but I know thats not possible. Is that just PPE terminology?
Mr.Diesel2U 10-14-2007, 03:09 AM Hey, if I decide to "Piggy back" a programmer with my Banks system, just to get rid of the limiter and speedo recalibration, should I disconnect the Banks, download the piggy back and reconnect the Banks or does it matter?
Cheerz

That is actual HP gains rated at the crank.
You will need a tranny for those gains!

Like others have asked, what do you plan to do with your truck? Will you be towing a lot?
RockHopper 10-18-2007, 11:55 PM 75% everyday driving and the rest towing.
How does a programmer give you 400 extra horsepower? I can understand changing shift points and things like that but how can a different model give you more? Also, what is inside that $1200 programmer that makes it worth so much more than the $499 programmer? I am totally lost...

Simple..How fast do you want to go..?
1200 dollar programmer has "race in mind" But you can use the lower levels for good performance , or economy as i think thats what your looking for...
$499 Programmer is more of a simple modest gain. What most people go with looking for a good daily driving tune..If your going into the performance category in the future, Go ahead a grab the big one...Its all about what you want to do with your truck..:)

Well put!
elkxing 10-19-2007, 09:43 AM I tow 5 days a week I run PPE at level 3 160 horse. This is by far the best mod to date on truck! Hot + 2 et improves shifting 100% over stock.Fuel economy also went up 5 mpg towing,usually16.2 average @ 20 mpg empty.I drive close to 10,000 miles every month with trailer, the ppe has more than payed for its self in fuel savings. I have 60,000 miles with no problems at all. When on a long trip empty just crank up the power and enjoy!
ecamp55 10-19-2007, 10:32 AM I just installed the Hypertech on my truck last evening and all I can say is "Man, why didn't I do this before?". It has alot more power than stock, shifts much smoother and I understand it won't hurt anything....except my fuel and tire bills, lol.

Always good to hear, sorry about the tires :D

Disconnect the banks system. Upload your reflash tune & plug back in the Banks system. That is the safe way.
Mr.Diesel2U 10-21-2007, 11:43 PM Thankz C n B! I'll see if it works! The other way I get a Service brake system message and my antilock and parkbrake light come on!
DmaxMike 10-23-2007, 10:11 PM I really like my Predator. Increased power and fuel mileage.:D Highway mileage is up 4mpg (hand calcs) at 70 - 75mph. :D
neubauej 10-24-2007, 01:51 AM Predator is hands down the best bang for the buck. However, as previously stated, if you ever want to run more than 85hp addtl. the ppe is the best on the market for plug ins.
If you want the best period, get efi live, and learn to use it. :)
