: ordering a new truck mid january
sierradmax 11-30-2004, 12:45 PM December and January months tend to be the lows for truck purchases for GM. I intend to order a 2005 Sierra 2500hd crew cab long bed LS duramax with a MSRP of $44,072.00.
Now, i fall under GMS discount and i am trying to get an understanding of what I will be paying monthly. My grandfather purchsed a $41,000 sierra for $32,000 so is it safe to assume that this truck may run me roughly $35,000? after rebates and GMS?
I would like to keep my financing to under $475 a month for 60 months with my trade in truck with a minimum trade-in value of $10,000. Does it sound feasible or do you think the APR will be above 10 percent and throw my figures well into the 500 a mo.???
thanks,
justin
ronadijcks 12-01-2004, 06:25 PM Depends on your credit scores. If you have good credit, you should get a rate in the 5-8 percent range. Follow the link to bankrate's site to figure your payment.
http://www.bankrate.com/brm/popcalc2.asp
good luck.
even with a rate around 6.5 you are over 500.

sierradmax 12-01-2004, 08:56 PM Well, I went to the dealership today just to see if I could qualify for any of the special GM financing promotions and I do. The salesman said that last 2 weeks I would have qualified for 0% apr but I'm not ready for the truck just yet. As for the loan amount, I'm going to guess that I will be loaning closer to $24,000 which even with bankrate comes close to $475 a month. I'm just hoping that the GMS is low enough, that they give me a fair trade-in value for my current truck, and there is a decent rebate at the time. My grandfather also gets special promotions monthly...$500, $750, $1000 but they can only be used within the delivery period alloted on the promotion...If thats the case, then I may take something in the lot or have the dealership look for a truck close enough to my liking.
thanks for the loan calculator, it will help me understand exactly what I need to come to realize what I will be paying...
Justin
sierradmax 01-03-2005, 09:12 PM Well, the time is almost here. I've narrowed it down to a deep blue metallic 3500 SLE 4x4 extended cab long box with the d'max. All the SLE options including dual alternator, push button 4x4, power extending mirrors and amber roof markers for an MSRP of $43,197. Single wheels, not a dually. It's everything I want and then some. Not entirely luxurious yet comfortable enough for my style and I won't have to worry about it on the jobsite. The problem is, I don't want to take delivery until beginning or mid april. I favor my dealer in Rhode Island but I won't be around mid february to go ahead with the order. Can a dealer hold off on the order until the respected time or can the dealer hold the truck in the lot until I am ready to pick it up if it were to be ordered?
Either way, I intend to go to the dealer this friday 1/7 and speak with the salesman who sold me the last truck and he can hopefully give me an honest answer (allthough all they have in mind is to sell right away).
speedbump 01-04-2005, 08:27 PM I know alot of people here give out GM supplier discounts but can anyone here give out a GMS dicount? I'm just curious because of the difference in the discount.
howard_m18 01-05-2005, 12:55 AM SPEEDBUMP & the rest of ya. G.M.S. = General Motors Price for a G.M. employee working or retired. It is shown on all "TRUE" invoices. It used to stand for G.M. out of Stock = a vehicle that was on the dealership's property & a vehicle that a G.M. employee would order. It is available to only a G.M. employee & his close family. In laws included. Hope this explains it for ya! Howard:) :) :)
sierradmax 01-05-2005, 05:39 PM howard_m18...would you happen to know roughly what percentage is taken off with the GMS discount?....taken off m.s.r.p.? My grandfather told me that his truck was $41,000 and the GMS with rebates was $35 and change. Thats close to 16%
sierradmax 01-05-2005, 05:42 PM Oh, I went to the dealership yesterday. Spoke with the salesman and he told me that I would need to order it the 17th of january the latest in order to retrieve at the beginning of april to mid april. And that the orders were 10-14 weeks with a d'max, not 7-10, which is what everyone here is saying. He did tell me that they will hold the truck in the yard for me until the time comes for me to pick it up.
BK Tool 01-05-2005, 08:22 PM sierradmax,
I see you are from RI. If you don't mind me asking... which dealer?
Also where in RI are you?

sierradmax 01-20-2005, 04:30 PM what a small world...
I've decided to hold off a few months. The dealer was going to offer me $3000 less than what I wanted for my current truck. I think I will list my truck for 3 months and wait to see if I get what I ask. Blue book trade in values at $10,500 as opposed to private party at $13,500. I wanted 12 from the dealer. Besides, I sat down with my father, who is a great business man, and he suggested I wait until I get my company going then I can purchase the vehicle through the company. Financing $30,000 will probably cost me $50,000 in the long run (after taxes) and cost me $3200 to insure personally as opposed to $2300 through a company and use it as a tax write-off (thank you Uncle Sam). So over the course of 6 years, the truck would actually cost me $1100 personally and roughly $600 through a business...I was ready to put $2000 down to order it personally but now I will be able to save a bit of money...
