I've done a few quick searches to find this one and am unable to locate. Here is a little background.....Driving thanksgiving night, cruise set at 62, had been traveling about 2 hours (100 miles) on a highway. I was slowing for a town and upon deceleration noticed a distinct change in the 'clang' of the motor, almost like it was being put under a hard load, but it wasn't. It was very noticable and somewhat loud. The change in pitch/tone would only last 5-10 seconds and would come and go quickly. If it hadn't been T-day and all businesses closed at 10pm I would have stopped. This 'behavior' was experienced while entering and leaving two small towns and only happened while changing speed. When I left the second town, this action produced a check engine light, which went out after 3-5 minutes back at 62mph (2000 rpm). After the light went out I had no more problems the rest of the 850 mile trip. I was running WVO at the time, switching back to diesel had no effect. Any ideas?

Code 43 is Fuel temperature high. If you are running WVO and have a fuel heater possibly your fuel heater malfunctioned? Just a thought.

Since you switched fuel and it didn't have an effect, could it be the thermister part of the optical isn't working right? Jiggle the wires and push in the connector and see if it helps.

How warm/hot does fuel need to be to trigger the code?

The book I tracked down said 43 was temp low, not high? The sound I was hearing had me thinking the wastegate was the culprit, it was sticking driving the same speed so long, when I heard noise it felt as if power increased. Is this likely? I'm working on installing a boost gauge so if/when it happens I'll have more info.

Not the wg. The temp range low/circuit high could be a bad ground/connection on the IP harness (fuel thermister is in the pump lid) or a bad thermister. I would hook up a scantool and look at fuel temp reading and jiggle the wires and such to see how it effects it. If it's not reponding look for one of these.
