Well it started with a hard start here
http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18286&page=2

Well I have a strange problem and I am wondering if I screwed something up. I have had a hard start condition for the past 2 weeks or so(around the same time I first started screwing with my liftpumps) It takes awhile of cranking for it to start and it dosnt apear the liftpumps helped. It happened when I had my factory flex line in there and its happening with the liftpumps installed with the factorry flecline eliminated(like the nictane set up) It acts like its losing prime but I can leave my pumps running for a miute or so before i try to start it or I can shut it off with them running and its still hard to start(if I just shut it off and restart it starts almost as quick as it used to) he longer it sits the longer you have to crank. I am wondering if I nocked the vent lose or something like that going into the tank? I have no fuel leaks and i have felt around up top and can feel anything outa place but its hard to know whats going on with the tank mounted. Could dislodging something cause a problem? It runs fine other than the lotsa cranking. Snapon scanner shows inj pw ms at .3 to .5 it used to be consitently around .4 to.5 but thats still within specs. Thats at idle with it warmed up, at a 2k raside idle its all .3 IIRC

Any ideas on things to check? If I turn on the pump its squirting fuel out the bleeder.

TIA:confused:

Now its no start. Truck has been sitting for 5 days, lotsa cranking with no start. My snapon scanner showed act frp (MPa) -3000 with the key on engin off:confused: started cranking and it went up to 2200-2100 right away. A bit of white smoke with it trying every now and then. After alot of cranking cycles it finnaly started getting sluggish. I hooked up the co. car(olds gutless ciera) and the first go around had plenty of cranking speed but after a bit the olds just couldnt keep up:mad: I cracked the bleeder and its spitting fuel. Water temp read 45 degrees, no codes thrown about glowplugs. It did have a MAF sensor outa range code and loss of com between the body moduel.

My question is.......is it possibly anything I coulda done? Or does it sound like its definatly my truck f-ing up. Anything else I can check? Any ideas on how to get my truck started so I can drive it the 100 miles to the closest deccent dealer? Has anyone gotten hasseled about having a liftpump when the dealer looks at it? I know outa sight outa mind but I would prefer not to yank it.....especially since it may intail on my back at the parking lot of work.

FECK:mad:

The actual FRP need to be around 10,000 psi cranking to achieve fire. If you have fuel, which it sounds like you do, you have a problem on the HP side (usually, but not limited to, injector failure) If an injector returns too much fuel through itself the HP side cannot build up adequate cranking PSI. Are you sure you were reading in MPA? 160 mpa = 23,000 psi, which is the max you should see.

it said it was reading in (MPa)??? and it was bouncing around from 2100 to 2200 and sometimes a bit below. Although I changed my display to read in psi but it kept some of the stuff in that metric stuff......maybe its reading in psi but its telling me its still in the MPa? who knows????

I have my truck plugged in and on the charger. So this definatly sounds like GM's wonderfull injectors or hp pump or something?

I'm going to yank my extreme but is there any word or do you guys have any ideas about the liftpumps? I guess they have to prove it screwed something up and I know it couldnt have screwed up the hp side, as long as my dumb ass didnt kock something lose. But I cant lose prime with a lift pump correct especially if the bleeder is belching fuel.

Thanks a million guys

Edit: AND IF ITS BELCHING WHITE SMOKE TRYING TO START i HAVE TO HAVE FUEL RIGHT? JUST MAYBE NOT ENOUGH PRESSURE FROM THE HP SIDE? stupid caps.....just call me pnut

Hey, Phil,, when ya bringing it up?

WTF???

OK, put it on the charger today and also plugged it in. It started right up. I mean I think it may have started faster than it ever has before:confused:

I lost my air intake heater maxi fuse before and I was able to start my truck fine. It also had problems starting when it was sitting in a heated garage for a day or 2 that was a good 65 degrees. Could it possibly be glow plug related or WTF??? I had a longer crank than normal before if I just shut the truck off and tried to restart or if I shut it off for a few minutes to go into a store. Maybe all the extra fule from trying to start it and then turning over quickly with a fresh charge and a somewhat warm block helped?

I'm going to take the TTS off it and the lift pumps and see what happens.

WTF???

I guess on a positive note it started and i dont have to trailer it 100 miles away. Maybe I should make a road trip to mi? At least i could trust Eric, I cringe at the thought of most guys touching my baby.

Any ideas:confused:

The "patient" is sitting here now awaiting the Dr to complete the operation. Everything is coming along ok and no suprises to report. I expect her to make a full recovery after we get 'er cleaned out. Gonna pump some new blood in her to make sure we dont have any left over diseases. Also run her on the treadmill to make sure she will be ok before she leaves my care....Whats that?.... Oops, gotta go, nurse is calling, patient is trying to awake and making some unusualy gurgleing noises.........

Gurgly noises bother me but she is under excellent care. I have complet faith that she will be feeling beter and take up smoking again soon after she is released. Have fun road testing her, just no pecker tracks please.

Treadmill? Rollers or pavement?

Actually talked about it. But decide for what i want to do I have enough fuel to get it done anyway. Plus not being able to get a set in a timely manner made up my mind. Oh, yeah....and it would be wrong to have Eric installing some aftermarket widgets under the generals warantee work. And beings I am comepletly bone stock except for exhaust anyway.......;)

Tomac made a quick jaunt over when i picked up my truck, it was nice to meet up with him and BS. I dont think the locals liked our smokey parade route though):h I think one lady was trying to write down my plate # after me and Mike had a small acelleration contest;). I'm glad he could show.

I'm filling out one of those customer comment cards, I swear I had full tread when i droped it off:rolleyes:

THANK YOU ERIC!!!!:ro)
