I have a question. Hoping for some help.
The issue is with the air controls. If I try to put on the recirc air it automatically turns on the a/c. This is a real issue on normal days. I have no way of shutting out the smell from the fields unless I want the a/c to kick on. The light for the a/c button doesn't illuminate but it is on. I have watched the compressor run. If I press the a/c button it will light up but if I press it to turn off it will not, untill I press the fresh air button.
Is this normal? Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure it's normal. I remember looking this up in the owners manual over the summer after having the same question.

Mine does the same thing, it bugs the crap out of me!!!!! Also, I wish that recirculate would work when just the floor mode is selected, it did in my 01 but not my 03. I have been thinking of unplugging the electrical connection on top of the compressor to see what happens.

The AC won 't work but the recirlcuation system will still work. Also I believe when its in recirculation a small percentage of outside air is still allowed.

Not much you can do, thats the way the system is designed. They've been that way far back as I can remember. I think the AC also works when the defroster is turned on, haven't used that feature on my 03 yet but my 88, 80 and 71 did.

The recirc mode requires a/c on so that your breath (humid) is dryed through the process of evaporation by the a/c before it fogs up the windows, you hit sombody, and sue GM because you couldn't see. Recirc has to let a small amount of fresh air in so you don't breathe up all the oxygen in the cab and pass out at the wheel, then sue GM. See how they do things? That said, if you do not want a/c on, unplug the cycle switch (if it even works).

Huh? When you turn off everything you still have FRESH incoming air, hence no foggy windows. (I am sure you have probably whined about that too) Try that in Alaska when you jump in with snowy boots on a 20 degree day. Try not whining long enough to think about the valuable info you are getting before you spew.
