: AFE PG7 not enough air for me!

A while back a few of us talked about how the new style AFE PG7 didn't seem to come completely clean after a wash. Well I am convinced mine is still quite dirty after cleaning as it looks like it AND is not giving me the air the big VA requires.
I had begun to notice a strange new sound from 15 #'s boost and up that coincides with the turbo. At first I thought I had a leak somewhere, but then noticed my filter minder was at 80%. I reset it and next time I checked it was again at 80%+. This went on for a while untill I decided to put on the old blue AFE....and guess what....sound is gone and the filter minder hardly moves. Whats up?....I put the filter through three cleanings last time and only had 2K or so on it when I noticed this....anyone else?

My filter minder comes in 3 full clicks with the std element. I believe that it is partly due to the reduction in area between the element rubber and the tube. Mine is the newer style with the MAF mounted in the housing.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I thought I read somewhere else that someone had a problem getting their PG7 clean. I know its back to my stock box for a while now. I cant justify buying another one, and I dont want to go back to KNN. Thanks for piping up in my thread also!

My minder also would go a couple to three clicks before this new sound appeared. After that I consistantly got 80% or better....telling me I suddenly got a lot more restriction. I have emptied a whole bottle of cleaner this time.....we will see. John, you mean the std. AFE?

I have 2 PG7 filters, and one of them goes to 80% every time I floor it. The other filter never moves the guage. The only difference between the two is the one that goes to 80% has too much oil. I think I will switch them and remove some of the excess oil to see if I can get the flow to match the other one.

I emptied one bottle of cleaner, and three washes later the filter only looks slightly better than when I started. The old blue filter would clean up like new with one wash. Maybe I will try the dishwasher.......
