: Mid range power missing

Well, it just seems flat.

I power brake it until the boost starts to move up then let 'er rip and
she goes great at low end and then it just sorta hangs there for awhile
and then goes through the top end power range just fine.

It's like I'm running out of gas in the middle or something.

It's my first diesel but I've had plenty of hot rods in my life and what
I'm expecting is for this truck to take off and continually build power
and speed until it tops out but it's not doing that.

Check the signature, I think I've got the equipment but maybe I'm
missing something important somewhere???

I run the Edge on level 6 all the time (unless I'm pulling the 5er) but
it's a daily driver level 6 so the tranny is setup and memorized.

I set the Edge to override all the shutdown features and I can get 0%
backdown.

I lock up the torque converter with the Co-Pilot so the tranny isn't
slipping.

I've got a FASS 95 that is supposed to keep up and maybe it is but it
sure doesn't seem like it.

I've got a Predator and I see quite a few people stacking the Predator
with 85hp under the Edge but I haven't tried that yet.....not sure about
the stacking thing....don't know if that is harmful or not????

What could be causing my mid-range power to feel flat like that or is
that normal for a diesel?

I'm not looking for a super hot rod but I do want it to
go....go....go...ya know.

Right now it's go...........catch up with itself............go!

Ideas?

Scott

when was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

I change it with every oil change so it's been a couple thousand miles.

I was wondering the same thing, but that filter should still be in good shape shouldn't it?

Mine is doing the samething, let me know if you figure it out, it sucks when you put next to a fast car and you smoke there doors off 1st through 3rd then there is a lag in shifting and they pass you up. i tried trailer mode, that did do anything ethier. so let me know if you figure it out.

one bad tank of fuel can clog a filter at any mileage. so there is no telling, try an additive and a new filter and let us know what happens

what kind of boost are you seeing? I see that you have an ATS tranny what do you have for a converter? and if I am not mistaken if you shut off all of the protection in the EDGE then you will not see any backdown anyway. with those kinds of mods you should not be seeing any lag in power, Period. A fuel filter can stop up the fuel flow but I doubt it with a FASS pushing through it.

I can push around 32 pounds of boost maybe a little more, hard to keep an eye on the gauge and the road ;-)

I've got a "5 Star Viskus Clutch Drive Torque Converter".

I can turn off all the backdown on the Edge and I do that every time I want to race it.

I also bring up the pressure on the co-pilot to lock the torque converter so there is no slip there either.

And....it screams out of the hole but it just runs out of itself and has to catch up.

When I check the Edge I'm showing 0% backdown so the Edge isn't doing it.

I was talking to the guys at ATS and they say I'm running out of fuel rail pressure and I should add the CP3 but that is over 3 grand so I'm trying to see what other options are available.

I was thinking about the DuraMaximizer but when I talked to the guys at PPE they told me that it wasn't a good match with the Edge and I needed to run their product with it so that's not an option either I guess.

I actually thought that FASS would push as much fuel as I needed but evidently not??????

Still not sure what to do or what my options are but I need that mid-range power.

32 psi is pretty good but with just the edge HOT at only 125 added horse power you shoud not need a second CP3. when it feels like it is falling on its face does the boost go away too? I would think that of the rail pressure is dropping off enough for it to bog then it would not regain to take off again after the mid range I am kind of al a loss for words here.

I can't honestly say if the boost drops or not....again ....it's hard to watch the gauges and the road but I'll try to do that to check.

The turbo spools up and I can hear it and it doesn't sound like it's losing boost, but like I said, can't say for sure.

Yea, I'm at a loss too....I figured I had everything I needed for what I was trying to accomplish.

A quick daily driver that is also used to tow....but still quick....that is the objective.

OK...I changed the fuel filter and gave it a few passes and it's still missing mid range power.

No noticeable loss of boost (it happens so fast ;-)

Just seems to flatten out in the middle and picks back up on the top end.

The power range is good on the bottom - flat in the middle - good on the top.

Edge is NOT backing down, ATS tranny is locked so there is no slipping.

I was wondering about the DuraMaximizer.....wondered if that would help the mid range power.

Anyone out there with the same problem with close to the same setup that I have?

Motor is tight....just need it to power through all the gears.

It's my first diesel but I am expecting it to continually gain power all the way through the gears until it maxes out on top end.

Am I expecting too much maybe????

maybe its just the limitations of an inline box type tuner

Not according to the guys Edge or the readouts.

0% backdown....more like it's running out of fuel but it's got a FASS lift pump on it so.....but maybe it still is.

Gonna have to drop by ATS and see what they can do I guess....

They originally said I need a dual CP3 pump and maybe that is what I need.

I was just hoping it wasn't....those things are not cheap!

I think you should get a second opinion, from A.) someone that is an expirenced duramax modificationist, and B.) someone who isnt trying to sell you something. see if they think it is lacking midrange, or are you not used to diesel power?
