Hi, i just received a 1986 6.2L C code Chev with banks kit, and it supposedly works fine, except for one thing. When ever you try and start it it just makes a click from the starter solenoid. Sometimes, it engages, but turns over very slowly. Would this be because of a bad solenoid, starter, or connection? thanks for input:D.

Have you checked all the normal stuff? Battery is first, must have good voltage. Be sure to check all your connections, could be a bad ground. Check to see if solenoid is engaging the flywheel and not just clicking. If it is engaging and all other things check out, beat on the starter with a hammer and see if that helps. If the hammer works it's probably time for a new starter.

Be sure to check both batteries as it has two :-) Maybe it's only got one in it now and therefore doesn't have enough cold cranking amps to turn that big diesel over :-) should be one on each side up front, with a + cable runing between the two of them over the radiator and then one + cable down to the starter, both grounded to the engine block (two different grounding locations though)

Like the other guys said, check the batteries, if they are low you can get those symptoms. also check your battery connections, i had that issue a couple of times and it was because the battery connection to the starter had loosened off.

Yes, there are two batteries, one of them being an larger agricultural battery. Also, i checked all the wiring, including the battery terminals, and replaced the solenoid that is just to the right of the left battery (facing the grille of the truck). Finally, i removed the starter. I then put a used a battery charger, and put the ground to the mounting holes, and the positive on a positive terminal. I then took a screw driver, and connected if from the positive terminal to the little terminal ( i don't know the specific name) that a wire was connected to, and it worked. It engaged and turned over fine. As a result, i think that the little wire that went to the little terminal on the starter a bad connection somewhere. I will check the wire, and install the starter tomorrow.

It could easily be corroded battery terminals. That symptom is common whenever you do not get the power that you need to the starter. Start at the batteries and work your way through to the starter. If the batteries are strong, check the connections. It shouldn't take long to locate and fix.

So the solenoid wire was bad? The one from the ignition switch (start position) to the starter solenoid? hmmm....cool
