This was put in in July. I have been running a filter wrap the whole time, which was cleaned off at about every 300 miles or so (I was under the hood priming my Censored MEGA filter). Cant be more than 20K miles on the filter. Note that I am in an agricultural area and it was driven on gravel 90% of the time. I was meaning to clean it a few times but then everyone on here said that they filter better when dirty.... I guess this confirms SPICER's air filter study about flow restriction! Look and see what you think.... Jason

You didnt have a filter wrap on that filter. Its pretty obvious. You can see gravel in the folds.

SO what really happened to that filter? Did you bend it when you removed it?

Thats a dirty beeotch. They sell a cleaning kit for those. But they only work if you clean them BEFORE they suck into the engine like that. What did the filter-minder say? Or has it already been sucked into the turbo? The factory filters do the same thing when they are left in waaay past the filter-minder suggesting replacement.

I might have fudged a little sayin I had the wrap on the whole time...I went the first 3-5 days without one while I had it ordered, and maybe one other day when I had it out and washed it with warm soapy water and left it to dry. Other than that, I've had it on that filter. You'd be suprised to see what it kept out (maybe not after seeing the filter though). Its a necessity for me.
I did not bend the filter removin it. You can see it has a twist on it where it collapsed. That would be hard to do by hand I would think... I have a KNN that has done the same thing. I'm going back to my stock setup with an AC/Delco filter...
And yes, the filter minder was pegged also. It wasnt 2 days earlier. BUT, I havnt really gotten on my truck at all lately until the night before I discovered this. I imagine that once I opened it up, it just sucked the whole filter in.
Keep in mind that I'm not flaming AFE or anything like that... Just though people would like to see it....

OH yeah, Mac you were asking what that object was... I went and checked it out. Turns out to be a mosquito on the bottom (You can see the top wing and the body better than the bottom wing) and some sort of small beetle (baby ladybug maybe) on the top. You asked...:D

Did that get wet on top of being in obviously very dusty conditions? Wow, never saw something like that. Under your hood must be filthy as well. Mechanics nightmare, dust and sCensoredt falling in your eyes.

Mine never got that dirty, but I can believe it collapsed. Check out my thread in the performance forum. That filter is now garbage... I'm starting to think ones half that dirty are.

Guess you should take better care of your rig !

MaxFarmer

As far as getting wet, I really dont think so. Maybe on the bottom side of the filter from spash-up out of the wheel well. My stock intake box and filte would always be dirtier right on the outer side. Otherwise, no water from above.
The underside of my hood looks just like the top of the filter. YES it is dusty. YES it is dirty. But, it doesnt have dirt falling off of it from all over. Just dust.
Also, I DO take very good care of my truck. I just think I'm probablly one of the 10% of people who actually USE their trucks for what trucks were once made for. I dont use it to cruise around the city, I dont pull horses up and down a highway, I dont race it at a track or pull sleds with it.
Hell, ask peanutgrower or wheatfarmer and I bet they'd say the same thing!
I know the filter should have been cleaned sooner, but I didnt put this up to get flamed. I just put it up so it wouldnt happen to anyone else if I could help it.

BTW, can someone tell me who to get a hold of to get some AC Delco Filters? I'm having trouble finding the vendors section with the new forum setup.
Thanks, Jason

eric at gmdieseltech.com

I havent budged the minder on my stock ac delco and I noticed no track imporvemnts running a afe regular filter on a stage 2 intake. For guys that just use thier truck for what its designed for a stock cheesed box and delco filter changed when the minder starts to move is what I would do. JMO

No flames intended....just thought it real odd to see large particulate matter in the filter, if it had a wrap on it.

Reason I asked if you bent it when you took it out is that I also have an AFE PG7...and noticed I had bent a couple of the vanes when I had to take it out once. Theres not a lot of room to get that into the airbox.

Appears your going to change to a different filter? What are you thinking of going with? Will be real interesting to see what happens to the new filter once/if you do, since your in a heavy dirt environment. Please let us know your findings....im sure other forum members would like to see that info...

Thanks for the link. I wasnt even thinking when I wrote about who to order from. I Thought of Eric right after I left my computer.
I looked the filter over really well tonight and I found no gravel at all. They were all mosquitoes. Must have gotten in there when the wrap was drying.
I'm going back to my stock box...but I'm gonna swis cheese it first. Actually before that I was thinking of talking to the dealership about the updated box? I hear the ealry '01s let a lot of mud in...mine used to. Anyone think the stealer will just swap me (before swiss cheeseing)?
I also tried to bend/twist the filter to see how hard it would be to do.... I had a hell of a time even budging it.:o

I am now convinced these new filters don't come completely clean.:( Three washes and I can still read the logo from the sock. I'm calling them tomorrow to see what they have to say.

With the amount of dust you are seeing i would tear a page out of the CTD handbook and put a baldwin paper BHAF in there before you dust the engine.

You will need to mod the AFE box a bit, but it should fit fine

Them are about like what's mounted in our tractors and combine, even some power units. Has anyone ever actually installed one of these? Any pictures?
