I thirst for knowledge in shopping for exhaust. Definitely want 4" or bigger. Does 5" really perform that much better? SS or ALUM doesn't matter to me.
Do some manufacturers really outperform others? Looking for your input on this, please do express your opinion!

Exhaust purchase should not be based on expected performance gains, becuase there isnt much measureable gain to be had when your below ~500 rwhp. Base your decision on sound and quality IMO. I went with a 5" for the cool factor only.

What Eric said ^

5" with no muffler. Bigger and louder is better:cool:

I wanted QUIET and got the 4" aluminized MBRP because though I wanted quality, I didn't need SS because I keep a truck less than 2 years and have no salt or contamination problems in Oregon or Central America. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with the MBRP sent me - looked like it was used or had at least been installed. Fit was poor and it hung down way too low. It is quiet. I had previously put Banks on customers trucks and found their quality a lot better, better clamps and brackets, but were louder. I have seen several MBRP 304SS and they not only looked nicer, but were better quality than the MBRP I got from a major supplier. The funniest thing is I have a friend who bought one of the cheap and cheerful aluminized units off the internet for about $100 cheaper than my MBRP that fit better, was new, and installed very nicely. It sounds about the same as the Banks. I have since much modified my MBRP to fit better. For my next truck, I will buy the internet cheapy for a lot less money for a better built unit and keep the MBRP muffler off this truck.

Very pleased with the fit and finish of my Banks 4". :)

It is louder than stock but, but then so are most 4" free flow exhausts......

I have Kennedy's 4"-5" and love it...but I still don't have the nerve to straight pipe it. I want to but am afraid of the noise when pulling my 5er.

On a recent trip pulling the 5er, the turbo put out 24.5 pounds of boost! I am not running any tuners, just the exhaust mod! Love the sound...still want to straight pipe it one day!!!

You will have to do some serious reading in your qwest for knowledge. There is tons of info you can find and you will have to decide in the long run what you think you are looking for. Good luck...

I bought the $300 Summit exhaust. It is loud, but I've gotten used to it I guess. Even towing for 1000 miles it seems fine, but it does roar up hill with a load on it.

gardnerteam,

I am really confused by your thoughts of the MBRP products. The aluminized systems are bent to the same exact bends and uses the same exact jigs as the T-409 and the T-304 systems. In actuality the aluminized, T-409 and the T-304 systems are the same with the exception of the material they are built from. You can interchange the parts from the three different systems in three different materials and it bolts on the same no matter what. We at DPPI have sold literally hundreds of the Duramax systems and never had a fit issue or a material that looked bad issue. That said we don't open but maybe 10% of the systems we sell to add in a tip or a delete pipe or whatever so we don't actually see the vast majority of the systems other than the box they are shipped in.

Anyway MBRP is pretty customer oriented and would want to know what is going on as would we, don't know if you got it from us or not but that doesn't really matter anyway as we want to make sure your a satisfied customer etc.
