Question for a transmission expert: i have a 05 lly with a suncoast v 1057 conv. 20,000 miles on it transynd oil in it since new. I was driving down thw freeway at 70 mph, i tapped the brake to kick the cruise off started to slow down to pull over, at about 20 mph or so i here this very loud bang ... I get stopped look under the truck and see nothin. So i drive away and i have all gears with lock up and i put 200 miles on it since then and all seems to be ok ? my question is ... Do you think this could have been a bind up between two gears on a downshift or what ?? thanks for any help.

Could you tell if the bang was from the firewall area or in the rear of the truck?

If it came from the rear of the truck I would look at the U-joints and if you have a 2 piece driveshaft lube the slip joint. I've had my truck make noise and it's been the slip joint in the drive shaft. It could of also been the rear end. When was the last time it was serviced?

any chance it skidded a rear wheel or maybe a tire lost contact with the road? sometimes the trans will disconnect if the ABS turns on .

That kind of a noise will always be heard in the rear. It could have been a draggy valve ( piece of debris in valve body passing through ) and that would cause a tie up. It could also be some information getting in the wrong place as in TCM; like a glitch. It doesn't sound like a ujoint to me. Change the spin on and have the TAPs reset and let's see if it comes back. I don't think it will. I have had the same thing happen on my truck.
