: How do you guys measure out fuel additive?

I'm heading back home to northern Wisconsin in a couple weeks, so I picked up a couple bottles of fuel additive (shefflers). Like every other additive I've seen, one bottle does five tankfulls. Do you guys just dump in a bit by guessing, or is there a better way of measuring it? I was thinking of buying a quart of Sta-Bil (and tossing out the sta-bil) just for the neat container that can measure/dispense several ounces at a time.

i used to measure out in "sample" cups my wife provided. i was without them on a trip and tried to find something else but ended up pourign a bit guessing. Now, I do that exclusively. if you more a little too much, it wont hurt just wasting. I use primrose 405, so pouring is very easy to judge.

Stabil bottle works for me.

I have a breakdown sheet that I keep in the truck as to how much additive per 5, 10, 20 ..... gallons of fuel. At the pump I guess the total amount of additive using the measure on the side of the Stanadyne bottle. The Sta-Bil bottle idea sounds good though!!

I use plastic bottles to pre-measure & pre-mix. This keeps things quick & easy at the pump.

Stabil bottle and a Sharpie with the amounts needed for every 15 gallons written on the side for both Primrose 405 and 409.

I always carry (1) 32 oz bottle and (4) 6 oz olive jars (ate the olives) that I keep full, I have 2 fuel tanks, 26gal and a 50gal when there is between 10 to 20gal left I fill up, 6 oz goes in the large tank and 3 oz on the small tank. Not to scientific but it works for me.

Some plastic will melt or disolve when used to contain diesel additive

good luck

Sounds like the StaBil bottle is the way to go. BTW, Tractor Supply has the quart StaBil for about $7.50, Autozone gets like $14 for it.

Sta-Bil bottle for me, too. I just picked up a 32ozer to replace the well used 12 oz bottle I've been using. I'm running around forcing my wife and kids to use the stuff in their cars before I put Primrose in it for me.

I buy 1/2 gal of Stanadyne Performance Plus and use a funnel with oz. markings and a twist valve on the bottom. I pre-measure 8 oz. into a bottle I keep in the truck (I actually have 2 at all times). Because the additive might attack a plastic bottle, I use the old bottles from Outlaw additive that I dumped in the car and other truck. The bottles are aluminum, so I am fairly confident they won't leak. I think the mix is 8 oz. / 20 gals, and I usually fill up around 1/4 left in the tank (usually around 18 gals to fill).

I use primrose 405 and it requires 1.6 oz for 25 gallons.

I went to the drug store and asked for a little cough syrup bottle with 1/4oz markings.

I can measure out exactly 1.6oz.

I've been using Primrose 405C which is the concentrated version. According to my math (probably wrong) it takes just under an ounce for 25 gallons. I usually fill with about 22 gallons. I bought a few small clear 4oz plastic bottles at the drug store that look like small shampoo bottles. I marked them off with a sharpie at what should be one ounce intervals. Kinda nice since just 2 of them will take care of 8 tanks of fuel. I don't have to lug around the bigger bottles at all and they measure out the additive pretty nice. I am using just a bit more additive than needed but heck what a few tenths of an ounce here and there.

Go to the drug store and buy perscription cough syrup bottles. i got 3 of them, they each hold 4 oz. small and they DON'T leak. been using the same 3 for over a year..

Ditto on the medicine bottles. They even have marks for measuring.

Had a 10oz bottle left over from A/C job (had the pag oil in it) put marks on it at 2oz. I also use 405 and 2oz per 27 gal. tank is close enough for me. The bottle has a nice seal but I keep it in a zip lock bag just in case.

Well, I just did what you did. I made an educated guess..... ):h

No really, I just added it in the parking lot of wal-mart tonight. Half a tank of fuel and 16oz of power service. On the bottle is says to add all 32 oz to 50gallons of fuel. My truck is probbly rich now. Tomorrow I will fuel up and not worry about it until the next tank of gas. Then I will probbly measure the right way. I think what I did is probbly FINE!!! Censored

I use a measuring funnel I picked up at Advance Auto Parts. Have seen them at Wally's to. The funnel has a valve buit in the spout so you can put the amount of addative in you need and then insert the funne in the tank and open the valve. Kind of clumsy but it works.Keep the funnel in the bed tool box. Have to be careful to close the valve befolre putting the stuff in the funnel or it goes on the ground, did that once.

CensoredI think you're right; the time to worry is with the next tank of gas! Just kidding! Grandma buys juice for our granddaughter, and it comes in 4oz plastic bottles; Grandpa gets them when they're empty. I buy Power Service additive in the 3qt bottles, then fill a bunch of the juice bottles. I use Diesel Supplement (with de-icer and anti gel) during the winter months (about the time the stations switch to blended fuel), and their Diesel Kleen in the warmer months both at 8oz per 25 gallons. The premeasured bottles make it so much easier at the pump. The Power Service quart bottles are marked off in 8oz increments if one doesn't want to mess with the smaller bottles.

I went to the local hobby shop--picked up a plastic fuel bottle(oz. markings on the side). These have a rubber stopper in the top of the bottle with a bent/angled alum. tube thru the rubber stopper that make it easy to dispense into to the filler neck. Turn it upside down and squirt. EZ

I bought a gallon of the Power Service and just estimate adding it. I don't think it will hurt if your alittle on the plus side. But I like the old stablizer bottle method.

I use Stanadyne and pre-measure it into an empty Sta-Bil bottle. When I get fuel just grab the bottle and dump the contents in... quick and easy!

Sta-Bil bottle, and 1/8 to 1/4 oz of my FPPF TotalPower/8 plus cocktail per gallon. I also carry some of the FPPF Fuel Power 8oz bottles on trips for "one shot" application.

I took an my Stanadyne bottles and use them. For my FPPF total power and Amsoil Cetane boost mix, I use about a 1/3 of a bottle per tank. I have a funnel for getting the last drop out on tank 3. I took a measuring cup and measured out the first time to get my marks set up. I have ~10 bottles and I mix them up at once. When I put the last couple of bottles in, I sit down and mix up a new batch. If I fill up earlier than normal, I just use the normal amount to make my life easier.

Kennedy,

What do you charge for a quick baseline pull on the dyno? I'll be heading right by your place on the way to my place in Tomahawk, once I get to the west side of Wisconsin I take 29 to Wausau then north on 51.

my truck usually takes 22-23 gallons to fill, so i got a empty Coke bottle with a sharpie marker line on it for the proper amount of primrose 409 for 23 gallons. if i loose it, just drink another Coke and draw a new line!!!

Just converted to the "StaBil" bottle method yesterday. Should work well. Gotta love this forum!
